Can we talk about NDs?
Nigerian Dwarfs are my favorite. My entire herd is made up of them.
Which is why it’s SO disheartening to see people upset with their teat size & milk supply.
It’s even more frustrating when you talk with these people and they just didn’t know better.
“Breeders” are promising lots of milk and easy to milk teats without either one of those things in their herd to begin with.
This breed has a chance to be amazing.
This breed IS AMAZING.
I can use my entire hand to milk a few does in my herd.
This quart of milk is what Ellie gives every morning and every night and she still is letting kids nurse.
Do. Your. Research.
Ask the questions.
Get udder pictures.
Lookup milk data.
Part of buying your goats is knowing their lines and what they’re coming from so you have an idea of what they’re going to produce.
Part of being the breeder is transparency. But it’s also culling what traits you don’t want & understanding that not every goat is worthy of having offspring.
If your itty bitty t***y committee doe has twin bucklings and you despise milking her, PLEASE don’t sell those kids as bucks.
The market is oversaturated.
These tiny goats are cute.
But they’re also powerful dairy animals when bred correctly. Thoughtfully. Responsibly.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. 🫶🏼
