Some pictures from the day of hog butchering. Cuts of chops, roasts, sausage, scrapple, ham and bacon. So thankful for the wealth of knowledge from Tina and Zipper Snipes. Doing things this way reminds me of what an old fashioned barn raising was probably like. There is something so sweet about the time around the table enjoying community.

Finally hit a milestone for our farm. We are doing our first on farm pig butchering this weekend. Yesterday we killed them, hung them in the freezer over night and today we process. We are truly grateful for the help getting here and thankful for this amazing opportunity. We’re looking forward to many more in the future. If you’re driving by today, stop in and say hi.

Here at the Burrows Family Farm we want to wish a Merry Christmas to all our family, friends and loyal customers. May your day be surrounded by love, joy, cheer, and hope. As 2021 nears to a close and we sit with family and participate in family traditions, we remember the true reason for the season - a Savior who came to earth as a baby and would later die for us. Merry Christmas and God Bless!!!

Burrows Family Farm would like to introduce everyone to our newest additions to the farm!!! Meet Sassy and Ms. Piggy (both preexisting names), our new breeding sows. Sassy is a 3 year old Berkshire, Yorkshire, Hampshire cross that has been bred back to a Berkshire. Her piglets will be here in a few weeks. Ms. Piggy is a registered Berkshire sow that we will AI in the spring with Duroc. Ashley and I have worked very hard to get to this point and we are thankful for all the support from our friends and family. Stay tuned, great things are still to come.

P.S. Sorry we haven’t done an update in awhile, life has been, well, life…

From October through mid-December you are encouraged to donate your un-carved, non-inked/non-painted pumpkins to your local farm or sanctuary. (Some organizations will also take them for compost so inquire!) At Burrows Family Farm we will gladly accept pumpkin, nuts and garden vegetables for our livestock. We will gladly pick up or you can drop off at the farm.

Have you checked out all the donation sites accepting ACORNS?!

Acorns provide supplemental protein, carbs, and good fats. Most of us have far more than our neighborhood squirrels and deer can consume. While all donation sites are accepting pumpkins, see our site for those that accept acorns.

Today we completed a build that has been years in the making. There are times when we have needed extra cold storage for different things on the farm and Ashley is tired of me storing my deer in her fridge. So, we built a cold storage room out of an old walk in cooler, a window A/C unit and a Coolbot. It’s not going to win a beauty contest but it sure does get cold quick. Looking forward to future butcherings to try it out.
