Managing 500-acres of beautiful farmland in Shenandoah County, Virginia, Jordan and Laura Green started the farm in 2009 and have been steadily growing since then. They raise animals ethically with regenerative/sustainable practices and in harmony with nature. We really hesitated to post this because we don't want to sound like bragging or minimize the effects the drought is having on our area and many farms. Virginia is in a bad drought.

Back in 2009 when J&L Green Farm started we committed to manage our pastures with a set of principles.
1. No artificial chemical fertilizers or sprays.
2. Managed multi-species grazing.
3. Ground rest.
4. Change our mindset about "weeds". All plants play a role and tell us something about the soil.
Are results showing progress? We think so. The grass productivity speaks for itself, we routinely can graze multiple more cows per acre than local averages. We're amazed & humbled by what nature teaches us if we listen.
Reports from all around us are hay yields down 75%, worst in 50+ years many old timers are saying.
We just had our first two fields done for hay, and the drought impact was only a 20% reduced yield.
Nature talks to us, we just have to learn how to hear it.

Today was turkey move out day!
They spent almost 5 weeks in the brooder because of the cold weather and rain the last 6 days, but today was warm enough to get them out!

Folks, we have breaking news from the eastern side of the Appalachian mountains in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley....
We know those who gave a guess on the piglet count last week have been waiting with bated breath and sleepless nights to know if their guess is the winner and if they will receive the free Summer Gathering Bundle!!!!
