Hart's Heritage Farm Specializing in Heritage breed Hogs and Chickens. We utilize organic and sustainable farming methods 248 acre farm in Central Illinois.

We raise Red Wattle and Mulefoot hogs and are breeders of Arapawa goats. We raise pastured animals using no chemical wormers or antibiotics.

Well, went to move a first time gilt into her new pasture today before she pigged, and of course she said to hell with waiting on me. So managed to get her loaded in a trailer and caught up her babies and moved em early this evening. I remember when I first started raising hogs yrs ago I got online (really new thing at the time) and asked about moving day old babies...." Don't do it!"..."the mothers will kill them", was the overwhelming response. I was in a situation though that I thought it was best to take the risk....When I put the Mama back with the babies that Mother instinct took over and all was well.......Maybe I am just lucky and raise really good sows,.....speaking of luck, our new puppy, Goose, drug out a really nice heavy duty 100 ft extension cord out into the field, apparantly in time for the planter to run over it and chop it into 6 or 7 pieces...
3 steps forward 2 steps back is a way of life around here.
Anyways just thought I would update everyone on the goins on around the Homeplace, and as always, I farm on.
