We brought some girls to the HNDGA Heartland Nigerian Dwarf Goat Association this weekend and, while we didn’t get any ribbons, our girls were looking 🎉🎉🎉 and had high placing in their classes! I am so proud of our hard working ladies. It was a hot long day but they behaved like troopers. Even the show ring newbies walked like pros and strutted their stuff. We have been working hard on culling and getting more specific in what we are working on and nutrition, and that’s paying off.

We didn’t get pictures of everyone because both my helper and the goats were just DONE when classes were over, but the few we did get of newer milkers are below. We are so excited for some fall shows and to get started on breeding!

We have some goats available that will be excellent additions for homesteads or hobby farmers! We love these goats but are making cuts to further our goals of show quality. The girls are both currently in milk and open. All four of them are sweet as pie and very easy keepers, easy to handle. Offering them up very reasonably and willing to make package deals.

Holy moley milk!!!! This is Dill’s DRT Forbidden Lemonade. Second freshening with triplets, first 12 hour fill at 2 weeks fresh. So. Much. Milk. We bred her to MerryTale SS Johnny Ringo and got a doe kid (retained) and two buck kids. Super excited about this litter as the are long and have gorgeous rumps. And with this kind of milk power on their dam’s side (AND sire’s side) these kids should be going places.

We have been working on this 4 goat stand for a couple of weeks now and I put it to use for the first time this morning! It’s been taking me anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half to milk the 12 Nigerians and 2 La manchas I currently have in milk. This morning it took 30 minutes!!!!! And that was with most of the little girls being VERY uncertain about this new situation. But on the whole they were CHAMPS and I am so relieved in getting this huge chunk of time back. Creating efficiency on the farm is a never ending battle, and this is one step in the right direction.

We had an amazing time at the HNDGA Heartland Nigerian Dwarf Goat Association show this weekend! We had so much fun meeting new people, seeing old friends, and showing our girls that we adore. No ribbons but our girls are improving by leaps and bounds with each show that we go to and with each breeding season we experience. I'm so pumped to get this new crop of juniors freshened and out into the ring next year as first fresheners.

Some of the better results:

Milkers:

Old McMullen Farm Cassiopeia - 3rd of 9 under Kay Kimmel (loved her udder shape and placement)

Juniors:
Buffalo Prairie BP Agatha - 1st under Joe Kimmel (who described her as very open, consistent with judges at previous shows), 3rd under Greg Murphy, 3rd under Kay Kimmel, 3rd under Justin Bassett

Sweeter than Honey Venus Quinn - 7th out of 15 (a huge class of tons of gorgeous goats) and was described as "very refined"

Calvin also showed Merrytale RP Dazzling Lyra in showmanship and did an amazing job of fitting her all on his own this time. He is improving so much with his showmanship skills and attention to detail with dairy goat showing. After watching the show for a while and making bets on who was going to win each class, he said, "Mom, how do I become a dairy goat judge?" Loving his interest and growth in this fun new hobby/business we're building.
