Long ago, across the sea, in the beautiful country of Scotland, there lived a woman named Robina McLaren. Their grandmother was a wonderful cook, making delicious Scottish treats whenever guests came. The sisters both married and moved to the United States in the 1950’s, as it was difficult to find jobs in Scotland. They carried on their grandmother’s legacy of baking treats and candies, and in 19

84, Nancy Farris and Moyra Robertson opened a bakery and deli together in Edmond, OK. They named in McLaren’s Pantry, using their grandmother’s name. The fresh baked croissants and traditional Scottish shortbread quickly won the hearts of locals. Edmond fell in love with both the food and the atmosphere. Many customers came in just to listen to the sisters’ thick Scottish accents, which never faded, even after years in the Sates. After two decades of hard work and baking, Moyra retired from McLaren’s in 2004. Her sister had passed away five years earlier. The bakery they started is now one of the oldest independently owned shops in Edmond, and it continues to thrive as a place to connect with neighbors and friends while filling the stomach with happiness.
