Our first year of lavender is in the books!! Many of the plants produced flowers which is surprising for the first year!! We let the farm bees collect the pollen this year, but next year we should have enough flowers for some oils!! Today we started distilling the Hydrosol from our fall pruning, this is gonna be a long process! Today the house smelled of venison jerky this morning, cookies this afternoon, and lavender this evening! We had fun!

We weren’t expecting blooms this year so I decided to harvest a few and let the bees have the remainder. Its exciting to see and smell the different cultivars. Some smell quite sweet while others have a hint of a eucalyptus scent to them.

After many delays, the Lavender is finally getting in the ground!

Our soil was hard, rocky and barren… just as our hearts had been for so long before God called us together. It’s heart work: removing the rocks and boulders, preparing the ground for a new chapter of growth, and fertilizing the earth just as we fertilize our hearts with the Word of God. The rows aren’t perfect, but Gods grace is!

Good morning everyone!

We have new life on the farm!! Our first calf was born yesterday evening, What a wonderful sight. Both mom and baby are doing great and were moved to the barn. Momma cow is such a good girl.

Didn’t take pics of all the stuff we got accomplished today but this is our Lavender area, top pic is the soil ploughed, the bottom is after discing it. We weren’t sure how it was gonna turnout because the plow was not folding over the rows, they were just standing up on its side 😂 we think the angle of the hill was the difference. I’d say it disc-ed up nicely!

So we can put this egg debate to rest! Eggs on top were boiled with salt in the water. TOTAL DISASTER, to the point where I couldn't use them for deviled eggs. Bottom eggs were boiled with salt AND a healthy dump of baking soda in the water. I barely had to crack the shells and they just slipped right off! I hope this can help someone for Easter if you are doing deviled eggs. 😊
