Remember What God Has Done

Today’s Passage:
Psalm 66

Highlighted Verse:
“Come and hear, all you who fear God,
And I will declare what He has done for my soul.”
Psalm 66:16

When something hard lands in front of us, it can make every past answer to prayer feel a long way away. We know God has been faithful, but the problem in front of us can be overwhelming. Before long, we are thinking more about what might happen next than all the ways He has already carried us.

Sometimes the best thing we can do when fear starts running ahead is remember where God has already been faithful. There are things in our own lives we once wondered how we would ever get through, and yet here we are. Psalm 66 points back to the Red Sea and the Jordan, reminding God’s people of times when He made a way for them when there seemed to be no way forward. Remembering His faithfulness in the past gave them reason to trust Him with whatever came next.

Remembering did not mean pretending life had been easy. They had been tested and refined, but when they looked back, they could also see all that God had brought them through. Sometimes His faithfulness is seen in what He keeps us from. Other times, we see it by looking back and realizing how faithfully He carried us through something we never would have chosen.

When we stop and remember how God has been faithful, it gives us reason to trust Him with what is ahead, praise Him for what He has done, and tell others about His goodness. That is where Psalm 66 ends: “Come and hear… and I will declare what He has done for my soul.” The psalmist had cried out to God, God had heard him, and he could look back and praise Him for His mercy. We may not know what today holds, but we do not have to face it as though God has never been faithful before.

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and for all the ways You have cared for us. When the things in front of us feel overwhelming, help us remember how faithful You have already been. Give us faith to trust You through the things we do not understand and strength to keep following You when the road is hard. Help us recognize Your mercy, praise You for what You have done, and be willing to tell others about Your goodness. May our lives bring glory to You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

The True Vine

Today’s Passage: John 15:1–11

Highlighted Verse: “I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in Me, and I in You, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

Most of us know what it feels like to try harder at being the kind of Christian we know we should be. We want more patience, stronger faith, better words, and more love for the people around us. Before long, the Christian life can start feeling like one long effort to produce better fruit.

Jesus gives us a picture that helps put that effort in the right place. In the Old Testament, God’s people were often pictured as a vine, but they repeatedly failed to bear the fruit He desired. Then Jesus says, “I am the true vine.” He is the faithful One, and just as a branch gets its life from the vine, the growth God wants to see in us comes from our life in Christ.

That is what Jesus means when He tells us to abide in Him. We keep trusting Him, letting His words shape us, obeying what He says, and depending on Him day by day. We still make choices and put forth effort, but we are not trying to change ourselves apart from Christ. We depend on Him as we obey Him.

And while we are growing, the Father is at work too. Jesus says He prunes the branches that are already bearing fruit so they can bear more. Sometimes that means there are habits, attitudes, or priorities in us that need to change. That work may not always be comfortable, but God does not waste it. He is continuing to shape our lives so they bear more fruit.

The longer we walk with Christ, the more we should understand that we never outgrow our need for Him. Real growth does not come from becoming more independent or learning how to do this on our own. It comes from remaining in the True Vine and depending on the life we have in Him.

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving us life in Christ. Help us not to rely on our own strength, but to keep depending on Jesus each day. Give us wisdom, help us trust Your work in our lives, and let the fruit You produce in us bring glory to You in all that we say and do. We love You and praise You, and ask all this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Bread of Life

Today’s Passage
John 6:22–40

Highlighted Verse
“And Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.’”
John 6:35

After Jesus fed five thousand people with just five loaves and two fish, the crowd went looking for Him again. They had experienced an incredible miracle, but their attention was still on the bread they had eaten. Jesus wanted them to see that the sign was pointing to something far greater than another meal.

When they brought up the manna God had given Israel in the wilderness, Jesus pointed them beyond that bread as well. The manna had sustained their fathers for a time, but now the Father had sent the true Bread from heaven—the One who gives life to the world.

Jesus is the Bread of Life, giving us a life that ordinary food could never provide. Earthly bread only sustains us for a time, but Christ gives everlasting life. That is why He calls us to come to Him and believe in Him. Eternal life is found in Christ and received by faith in Him.

What a comfort it is to know that our eternal life is secure in Christ. We can come to Him, believe in Him, and rest in the life He gives.

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus, the Bread of Life, and for the eternal life we have through faith in Him. Give us wisdom for the day ahead and help us keep our hope firmly in Christ. Let our lives glorify You in all that we say and do. We love You and praise You, and ask all this in Jesus’ name, Amen.

The Hope of the Faithful

Today’s Passage
Psalm 16

Highlighted Verse

“You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Psalm 16:11

Psalm 16 gives us a beautiful picture of a life that has found its rest in the Lord.

We can enjoy the good things He gives us and be thankful for them, but our hope is not built on those things. The Lord is the One we trust, the One who counsels us, and the One we want before us as we walk through life.

There is a steadiness that comes from knowing our lives belong to the Lord. In Him we find the security, contentment, and joy that nothing else can give.

And that hope is not only for this life. Through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we know that even death cannot bring it to an end. Jesus was not left in the grave. He rose again, and because He lives, those who belong to Him have a hope that reaches beyond the grave and into the presence of God forever.

Let’s pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You that our lives belong to You. Teach us to trust You more each day, to keep You before us, and to find our contentment in You. Thank You for the resurrection of Christ and for the hope we have that reaches beyond this life. Thank You that our future is with You, and that in Your presence there is fullness of joy forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
