Laura Lane Lambs

Laura Lane Lambs We are a small, organic farm raising organic lamb, and selling organic eggs. She likely did; there's only so many ways of doing it. Like ... one way. Wait.

Our preserves are made just like your grandmother made it ... if she made preserves the way we do. Did I say organic up there? I'm not allowed to; I haven't paid the US government and its bureaucratic licensees several thousand dollars in order to be able to use that term. WE ARE NOT organic! Forget I said anything; I did not say organic. However, the sheep eat grass, hay and grain from the local

silo, and they drink water that comes from a well. We have neither the time nor inclination to pump them full of medicine and hormones. The chickens eat cracked corn in the barn, and on their daily tours of the pasture and yard they eat bugs, weeds, and the scraps from the squirrel and rabbit bones the dogs leave behind. And they get no medicine, hormones or chemical nutrients because we just don't want to buy any for them. So you be the judge. Don't let government bureaucrats tell you what to think. Are we organic, or aren't we? I'm not allowed to say, but you can.

Coyotes broke into the pasture last week and took four of the remaining five lambs we had this spring, and killed a ewe - eviscerated her - and left her in the pasture.

We have one of seven lambs. And we're down a ewe.

Sadly, two of our four ramlings were carried off one night s few weeks ago, leaving us with one and one. I'm blaming coyotes, whether they deserve it or not. But then we got another eweling the next week, to give us two ewe lambs and one ram lamb.

And today we found a pair of brand new ewelings. So five lambs, with 4 girls and one boy.

I think there are two ewes to go.

And a set of twins on the 11th - a boy and a girl.

That brings the year's lambings up to 4, with three boys and one girl.

Second lamb yesterday.

Also a boy.

First lamb of the season. Tall, agile and alert, so it's been on the ground a while.

The last of the ewes dropped twin girls this morning. These are the first to be born without having horrible weather forecast for the next three days.

The triplets were just born before it hit -7. None survived.

The twin boys were born before we had 9 inches of snow. One was buried.

These twins were born just before it is scheduled to rain for two straight days. Rain is survivable.

The current status is three boys, three girls. Hope to keep it that way.

Triplets were born yesterday, two were still. Mom left the survivor in a puddle of mud water that was freezing over.

Brought it in to clean him up and try bottle feeding. He took about 6oz of emergency formula before refusing any more. Kept the hair dryer on him for about 45 minutes until he stopped shivering continually.

Slept in the laundry room with the dogs. This morning he refused to take any bottle, and could no longer stand. Took him back to the barn to die with family.

This afternoon twin girls were born. Both are walking.

The second of our six ewes dropped twins this morning. Or late last night. Both boys.

Three so far this season.

LLL welcomed the baby new year in the form of a lamb, a ramling, discovered early this morning in the barn.

We seem to have collected an 8th lamb in the last few days. Don't know exactly when it was born, but it's just a few days old and a male.

01/28/2018

The lambs have been early this year. It's not even February yet and we've got seven lambs, including two sets of twins. The latest hit the ground yesterday.

There should be another five ewes to go.
