Willenskraft Farm

Willenskraft Farm At Willenskraft Farm we pride ourselves in raising our animals and products all natural and chemically free. Why the name Willenskraft???

When creating a farm name, we wanted to use something that had meaning, and also reflected our German heritage - generations of hard working farmers. Time and time again we have been knocked to the dirt. Every time, we pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, brush the dust from our eyes and continue forward with our dream. Willenskraft is the German word for willpower. Through sheer willpower we wil

l continue forward, working to produce healthier more natural animals and products for our family, friends and community. "When the will is ready, the feet are light" ...Proverbs

Drilling in native prairie grasses with a native wildflower mix....slowly converting the farm into a nature habitat while restoring the Kansas prairie right here in our own back yard. When I was a little girl I would ride on the planter while my dad sowed seed....this brought back so many good memories

Didn't get a chance to post yesterday, but this little cutie arrived on the farm just in time for the first day of Spring! Our second mule baby for the farm and another boy!

And so it begins....another season of planting garlic....bulbs are peeled apart clove by clove, ground is tilled, soft and fluffy. Holes are punched into the ground, 80 at a time using our homemade planter. Each clove is carefully placed in the ground by hand, to be covered in straw...to rest over winter and prepare for new spring growth. 2018 will be a time of rest for our farm....we have suspended raising hogs, sending our sows and boar off to a friend in Holton to be used as pasture pigs. We have sold the goats and are reducing chickens. 2018 will be a time for restoring.....restoring our dirt back to a natural state, feeding it with new, homemade, healthy fertilizers and organic matter...restoring our hearts by taking time for ourselves...trying to do less so we can enjoy more...2018 will be a time for regrouping....for concentrating solely on garlic and ground and family time. As with the seasons, with nature...plant and animal...there is always change...and so we begin here...in this moment...with this one small step...planting garlic

From start to finish....to prepare our fresh ground garlic powder we hand peel each bulb, sort and peel out the cloves, chop them into slices, and then place them in the dehydrator. Once dried, we grind them down to a fine powder....then it's on to the scale for weighing and packaging. Finally each bottle is labeled and sealed for freshness. You can find us at the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin City, Kansas this weekend [Oct 21 & 22] selling this and other great garlic products....including our famous Garlic Scape Pesto! Enjoy! Eighteen 50 lb bags of sugar.....you can imagine the looks and heads shaking in disgust as we left Sam's Club today....funny thing is we don't even EAT refined sugar....our sugars for consumption are honey or natural maple syrup. THIS sugar will be used to feed organisms growing inside several giant fermenting totes....creating an ahhhmazing natural fertilizer once the process is complete. Piece by piece slowly things are coming together!
