🌿🍅 The Old Carolina Tomato: A North Carolina Heirloom Rediscovered 🍅🌿
In 1948, in the mountain town of Sylva, North Carolina, a dedicated gardener named Nell Bryson saved ten tomato seeds and tucked them away in her freezer. These seeds remained dormant for nearly 70 years until they were rediscovered and brought back to life by heirloom enthusiast Bevin Cohen.
Now known as the Old Carolina Tomato, this variety boasts large, orange and yellow striped fruits with a vibrant red core. Weighing between 1 to 1½ pounds, these tomatoes are not only visually stunning but also deliver a rich, complex flavor that harks back to a time when tomatoes truly tasted like tomatoes.
