Today starts National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. I have contemplated all month what to say-or if I should just stay silent again- because what if I relapse someday? Even seven years into recovery, it's still a struggle at times. But silence feeds the shame, so here I am.
My struggle with bulimia began when I was 13 years old. For a decade, I suffered in silence, fueled by shame, fear, and the need to be perfect. It has taken years to overcome, and there are days when it is still hard—but I am proof that you can heal.
Eating disorders are a mental and physical illness that can affect anyone, but help is out there. This week, I'm proud to partner with to spread hope and provide life-changing information and resources. If my story resonates with you, please know you are not alone.
