I’d be remiss if I let it get any further into June without acknowledging that June is National Dairy Month! I’m terrible about posting to social media, but thought I would share some pictures of our favorite dairy products to make: yogurt, butter, feta and quark cheeses.

Summer Friday nights mean homemade pizza with homemade sauce and mozzarella and homegrown chicken wings! And guys please send help because I made 36 chicken wings and 4 pizzas for the boys and a couple friends and I think Lukas and I maybe had 6 wings between the two of us. 😂 They’re not even teenagers yet and they can already eat us out of house and home!

Tonight our self appointed General Manager of Employees, Eliska Shumbera graduated salutatorian of El Campo High School Class of 2026. To say we are proud of her is an understatement. Lukas and I have had the privilege to watch her grow up at St Thomas’ Episcopal Church and working for us at Flower Cow Farm. She’s watched the boys, ran the farmers’ market booth, helped process chickens, and taken care of and milked cows when we’ve been gone. She has been a great role model for our boys. She has been integral to our farm success, even when she was talking my ear off and making me rethink my life choices.

Eliska we are so proud of you and know you are going to go on to do great things. You will make a great engineer one day and are an even greater human being. You are kind and compassionate and can accomplish anything you set your mind to. We love you!

Life on a small farm + homeschooling + working = rare date night.
Thank goodness for birthdays and anniversaries. 😅

When Lukas and I actually get out, one of our favorite spots is pondicheri in Houston. The food? Incredible. The Bake Lab? So cool.

So I was thrilled to get their cookbook, Masala.

Last night we made the homestyle butter chicken—using our own organically raised, soy-free drumsticks.

And I'm not just saying this because they're ours.

That was probably the best chicken I've ever made. The yogurt marinade. The sauce. Everything. 👩‍🍳💋

Look what the Easter bunny left for us this morning! A brand new white Dexter/Jersey cross bull calf!

Y’all should have seen the look Poppy gave me when I said that. Don’t worry I told her if she wanted credit she should have had him earlier in the week, when I thought she was gonna calve… 😂

Doing a little Easter baking and sharing some of the chicken we made earlier this week! Pizza 🍕 for the boys tonight, croissants 🥐 for the weekend, and hot cross buns for Easter morning.

If you’re in Wharton tomorrow stop by hesed_house_wharton to grab some croissants, I’ll have plain and NUTELLA available! They also have chicken in stock and so many other goodies produce by wonderful local vendors!

What a week it’s been!

We kicked off our county fair watching our niece Savannah and Eliska (who’s been a huge help to us around the farm and at farmers markets) show their pigs—they placed 1st and 8th, respectively, and both made the Sale of Excellence!

On Thursday, Joshua and Eliska showed their dairy heifers and had an amazing time. We are so incredibly proud of their hard work:
✨ Joshua won Jr. Champion and Jr. Showmanship Champion with his heifer, Sweet Pea.
✨ Eliska won Grand Champion Dairy Merit Heifer and Dairy Merit Heifer Showmanship Champion with her heifer Olive.

And not to be left out Teddy and Finn showed their bucket calves, Piper and Bucky, yesterday and had a blast!

We love being part of our county fair and seeing the youth of Wharton County excel! ❤️

We can’t wait to support Savannah and Eliska tomorrow at the Sale of Excellence. It starts at high noon in Crescent Hall. If you would like to support our wonderful Wharton County kids through the sale, please come on out to the sale or contact the fair office!
