St. Fanourios, or Agios Fanourios, is a beloved saint in the Greek Orthodox tradition whose story is closely associated with the island of Rhodes. His name comes from the Greek word fanerono, meaning β€œto reveal,” and he is traditionally invoked when something has been lost or when we ask for something to be revealed. πŸ€πŸ’™

A little fun today! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·πŸ’™πŸ˜‚πŸŒ―

Sound on! πŸ”Š

Every time I’m in Athens or Thessaloniki, I hear this… πŸ˜‚βœ‹

It’s pronounced β€œyee-ro,” not β€œGYRO.” Don’t pronounce the G! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

We always take our travelers to experience some of the best gyros on our adventures, but Thessaloniki is one of those cities you truly have to experience for yourself. There’s nothing quite like enjoying an authentic gyro there! πŸ’™ Don't forget the ketchup and mustard! πŸ…β€οΈπŸ’›

But for me personally, it’s all about β€œap’ ola” β€” give me everything! πŸ˜‚ Although, I’ll admit… I’m an Athens girl at heart, so I prefer mine with tzatziki and NO ketchup or mustard. You can’t take the Athens out of me! πŸ˜‚πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

So tell me… how do you take your gyro? πŸ‘‡πŸ₯™πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

Today is a hard day for our family. β€οΈπŸ™

August 15th is such an important day in Greece, the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, and a day when so many beautiful Greek names are celebrated. One name that means so much to our family is Panagiotisβ€”my beloved Pappous’ name. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·

Honestly, it was difficult for me to make this post today.

My dad lost his entire immediate family to cancer. He is the last one standing of three brothers, alongside the loss of his beloved mother and father. My grandparents came from Mani, Greece, lived through very difficult times, and eventually moved to Piraeus, where they made their home in Amfiali. They also lived in Tavros and Petralona before that. πŸ™

Life wasn't easy for them. They carried so much, built a family, and created memories that somehow live on through us.

Sometimes, it's hard to look at old photographs because the memories come rushing back. But today, I'm grateful beyond words that we have these photos. ❀️ They allow us to see their faces, remember their stories, and keep a little piece of them alive.

Xronia Polla to everyone celebrating today!! Which is probably half of Greece! Don't forget to check out a panagiri near you!
πŸ‡¬πŸ‡·πŸ’™πŸ€

Hold your family close. Tell them you love them. Take the photos. Make the memories. Don't wait.

Life is so incredibly short.

Missing all of my family today.
Until we meet again… πŸ™β€οΈ

Panagiotis, Pappou, you are always with us. πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡·
