Exciting news! After a 2 yr hiatus, we are expecting a litter the first week of November. The pairing is UUUT23 Epic x LSK Legacy. Epic is an outcross with low % GP. This should be a forwardly friendly litter, with good guardian skills including poultry. In fact they had a turkey join them in the honeymoon suite. I expect 50% black pups and 50% silvers.

Saturday was hoof trimming day for the does and introduction to goats for Thistle and Fury. The 2 bucklings and their babysitter Zeus were the perfect hosts.

Later in the day the pups (aka hoover vacuums) were fed on a shuffle mat. It definitely slowed them down and I even had to dump it out when they were less motivated.

Today we took Fury and Thistle on our errands to pick up groceries and to go to Big R. They settled right down in the car, and rode without a peep for their second ever car ride. Then they were a big hit with the staff and the shoppers at Big R.

Both Saga and Connor just turned 4 mo, so I decided it was time to start poultry training in earnest. As I start on leash it also reinforces leash training. Both pups had exposure to chickens as young pups, and it shows. I do the training at the same time as I toss scratch and meal worms so the birds are distracted. I reinforce calm behavior when they ignore the birds, as well as redirect them if they make mistakes. It is amazing how quickly the pups become relaxed in the poultry pen. Now these guys are about to enter adolescence (the T-Rex phase) so these lessons will be repeated until adulthood when necessary.

It is a bittersweet day when my adult dogs go to their forever homes. Today Octavia met her forever family. I couldn't be more pleased with their openness and emerging love for her. I just have to tell myself when one door closes another opens. Stay tuned for what is going to walk through that open door.

We have been hosting a few dogs from Shaela Laskowski. Rogue found her new mom last week, leaving her daughter, Martha May, looking for her own digs. Well, my friends were visiting from Chau Town Farm, and during that visit we found Martha's true love! She wants a family with a few kids and some space to roam.
