I’m a bit late sharing this, but after we went to see Lucy Darling aka , we ended up hanging out with Miller again and we had a blast on our little farm. He wanted to get Christmas card photos with my mom so Fernando and Esmeralda could live forever in infamy. 🤣

Our 5 sweet girls and 5 sweet boys are at 2 different farms now and recovering from outright starvation. We are working with amazing alpaca mentors and our specialty camelid vet on a re-feeding schedule and testing for diseases this month.

We are so excited!!!
After we found out mama llama was such an amazing mama, we were asked to take in another baby to see if mama would bond to her and start lactating.

Sadly, she didn’t take to the alpaca baby, so we have been bottle feeding until after fair was over. But we had a game plan!

We have another friend with a lactating mom alpaca who is weaning an older baby. So we picked her up yesterday to see if maybe this could work out!

Well today, we’ve been working some magic and hoping to mesh these two together! Baby Cass found out alpaca milk tastes SOOOOO much better than grody old cows milk! Milk mama Anna wasn’t super interested in standing still though. So we are plying her with food and hoping they click.

Now starts the scary part! We have to make sure that as we transition from the bottle to the wet nurse, that Cass gets enough milk! But we’ve got that handled too. We will weigh before and after feedings until we know she can be fully weaned from the bottle.

What an exciting adventure! It’s such an amazing thing to be a part of nurturing tiny beings! ❤️🥰
