π Did you know honey is one of the most faked foods in the world?
π€ Much of the honey sold in supermarkets is imported and contains nothing more than syrup β made to look and taste like honey, but offering none of the powerful health benefits of real honey.
π Nearly 50% of honey imported into the US situation is similar, if not worse. And here's the real concern for health-conscious consumers: imported honey is rarely tested to verify if itβs genuine.
π€ Many people reach for honey at the first sign of a cold, cough, or sore throat β and rightly so. Real π― is packed with enzymes, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories that support the immune system and soothe respiratory complaints. But fake or diluted π― wonβt do a thing to make you feel better. If it isnβt made by π π your body isnβt getting the health benefits β just sweet sugar syrup in a pretty bottle. That cheap supermarket βhoneyβ may stay liquid forever and never crystallise, but itβs likely been stripped of pollen, overheated, or isnβt honey at all.
How can you tell the difference between real and fake π―? Unless you have access to a lab, you probably canβt. But hereβs how to stack the odds in your favor:
1. βοΈ Country of Origin β If the label doesnβt clearly say where itβs from, itβs likely to be of dubious origin and blended. A lot of labels are grossly misleading, so check the lid carefully to see if it is non-US honey.
2. π₯ Unfiltered & Unheated (Raw) β More likely to contain pollen, enzymes, and all the good stuff that supports immune health.
3. βοΈ Granulation β Real raw honey crystallises over time. If it stays liquid indefinitely, be suspicious as it may be overheated, filtered, or fake.
4. πΏ Varietal Honeys β Like Heather or Ivy honey, often traceable to a single beekeeper, and some of the most beneficial for respiratory and immune health.
5. β
Beekeeping Organization Labels β These add another layer of trust to your purchase.
6. π Buy Directly from a Local Beekeeper or Trusted Producer β Itβs the most reliable way to ensure you're getting real, unadulterated honey β and you're supporting small-scale, ethical beekeeping like ours!!!
