HAPPY 🌎 BEE 🐝 DAY!

Love our pollinators so much and know you do too!!! Here are πŸ– things you can do to help!

πŸ’› 1. Plant Native Wildflowers:
Native plants are specifically adapted to local conditions and provide the food and habitat that pollinators need. A variety of native wildflowers blooming throughout the year is ideal.

πŸ–€ 2. Provide Water Sources:
Pollinators, especially bees, need water, especially during hot days. A shallow bowl or tray filled with gravel and water, or a bird bath with pebbles for landing, can provide a source of water.

πŸ’› 3. Avoid Pesticides:
Pesticides can harm pollinators, so it's best to use them sparingly or avoid them altogether. Consider alternative pest control methods like using beneficial insects or hand-picking pests.

πŸ–€4. Create Nesting Areas:
Many bee species need specific habitats for nesting, so consider leaving bare soil spots, providing old logs or stumps, or building bee hotels.

πŸ’›5. Educate and Advocate:
Spread awareness about the importance of pollinators and encourage others to take action, whether it's planting native plants or supporting local beekeepers.

πŸ’› Did you know honey is one of the most faked foods in the world?

πŸ–€ Much of the honey sold in supermarkets is imported and contains nothing more than syrup β€” made to look and taste like honey, but offering none of the powerful health benefits of real honey.

πŸ’› Nearly 50% of honey imported into the US situation is similar, if not worse. And here's the real concern for health-conscious consumers: imported honey is rarely tested to verify if it’s genuine.

πŸ–€ Many people reach for honey at the first sign of a cold, cough, or sore throat β€” and rightly so. Real 🍯 is packed with enzymes, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories that support the immune system and soothe respiratory complaints. But fake or diluted 🍯 won’t do a thing to make you feel better. If it isn’t made by 🐝 🐝 your body isn’t getting the health benefits β€” just sweet sugar syrup in a pretty bottle. That cheap supermarket β€˜honey’ may stay liquid forever and never crystallise, but it’s likely been stripped of pollen, overheated, or isn’t honey at all.

How can you tell the difference between real and fake 🍯? Unless you have access to a lab, you probably can’t. But here’s how to stack the odds in your favor:

1. ✈️ Country of Origin β€” If the label doesn’t clearly say where it’s from, it’s likely to be of dubious origin and blended. A lot of labels are grossly misleading, so check the lid carefully to see if it is non-US honey.

2. πŸ”₯ Unfiltered & Unheated (Raw) β€” More likely to contain pollen, enzymes, and all the good stuff that supports immune health.

3. ❄️ Granulation β€” Real raw honey crystallises over time. If it stays liquid indefinitely, be suspicious as it may be overheated, filtered, or fake.

4. 🌿 Varietal Honeys β€” Like Heather or Ivy honey, often traceable to a single beekeeper, and some of the most beneficial for respiratory and immune health.

5. βœ… Beekeeping Organization Labels β€” These add another layer of trust to your purchase.

6. 🐝 Buy Directly from a Local Beekeeper or Trusted Producer β€” It’s the most reliable way to ensure you're getting real, unadulterated honey β€” and you're supporting small-scale, ethical beekeeping like ours!!!

🐝 How Do Bees Feed Each Other? πŸ€”πŸ’›

πŸ’› Ever wonder how honey bees share food? It’s through a fascinating process called trophallaxis!

πŸ–€ During trophallaxis, one bee will regurgitate liquid food from its honey crop (not its digestive gut!) and pass it directly to another bee. It’s like a little bee-to-bee food delivery! 🍯🚚

πŸ’› This isn’t just about nutritionβ€”it’s also how bees share pheromones, beneficial bacteria, and important colony info. It keeps the hive connected, healthy, and strong!

πŸ–€ Fun fact: 🐝 Bees have two stomachs!
➑️ Honey crop (honey gut) – a storage tank for nectar.
➑️ Midgut – the real stomach for digestion.

πŸ’› Please remember that dandelions 🌼 are a major source of food for our bees 🐝 especially coming out of winter. If you spray them, it can kill the bees too. πŸ˜“

πŸ–€ If you won't consider letting the dandelions live to be a food source, please try this recipe (which will not kill the 🐝🐝): 1 gallon white vinegar, 1 cup salt, and 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap.Β
