Some farm days are picturesque—the weather is perfect, the animals are healthy, and the garden is flourishing. And some days are just plain hard. ❤️🩹
After the heat finally broke, we moved our sheep to better pasture. It was quite the trek with lots of new babies, so some lambs got carried or took a “razor ride” in the loving arms of our little farm hands. 🐑👧🏼👦🏼 We got everyone tagged (or retagged), separated the older boys, and got them settled onto fresh grass. 🌱
Then four ewes disappeared. 😳 After searching and working the rest of the herd, we thought they had jumped the fence and wandered into the woods. We went to bed pretty heartbroken, convinced we had lost them.
The next morning, I got up early to check one more time—and there they were, all four, standing at the fence waiting to come back. 🥹 I cried tears of relief.
Just when we thought we could breathe, we noticed another ewe was in labor with little hooves hanging out. We chased her down and helped pull the baby. Thankfully, mama and baby are both doing well. 🐑❤️
Farming has a way of taking you from pure heartbreak to pure joy faster than anything else I’ve experienced. Some days are long, hard, and seem to string together—but then you get a moment like that, and you remember exactly why you love it. 🌱🐑❤️
