We hatched our first serama chicks. Seramas are the world’s smallest chicken breed. Two itty bitty babies so far. One is extra small. Their momma, Dolly, is on the smaller side and a perfect specimen of the breed. Mackenzie showed and received Reserve Grand Champion at the Miller County Fair with Dolly. The photos make them look bigger than they are. Pictures show a normal size chick that we just hatched as well to try and show the size difference. The tiny one is about an inch and half.

I wish every post was happy news but any one who raises animals knows heartbreak. Sunday morning was tough for us. A skunk got into the barn and burrowed under into the stall where we had our ducklings and goslings and pulled them out one by one and killed them. One survived and that was only bc a goose it had pulled out got stuck and it couldn’t get back in to kill the last one. She has a wound on the back of her head and her tail is gone. We’ve treated it and she’s scared but doing well. Her name is now Lucky. She was the lone survivor. Thor, our livestock guardian knew something was in the barn but couldn’t get in but we believe he took care of it when it exited the barn as he was clearly sprayed and had a good amount of blood on him. Here’s some photos of Lucky and our good boy Thor.

Back around Christmas time Mackenzie & I farm sat for our neighbors. When they got back our sweet neighbor gifted Mackenzie a Frizzle Serama roo as a thank you. Well of course we needed to get him some lady friends of his own size and their own coop/run. So we bought a coop and run from marketplace, Charles reinforced it and fixed it up, I painted, and we moved them over today. They are so cute!! Although I believe at least one is an imposter and probably another rooster lol.
