We’ve been growing out our pumpkin seeds so we can have a pumpkin patch. Should be ready to plan soon and hopefully we have plenty of pumpkins for the animals.

*I read somewhere to soak the seeds in water over night before planting and that seems to work really well.

Norman greeting the new Dexters. One bull calf and one heifer calf.

We chose dexters after researching because they are a hardy breed and dual purpose for milk and beef. They don’t get as large as some breeds, so they’re easier to handle, don’t eat as much and don’t need as much acreage for them. They’re efficient and great for homesteaders.

Sold most of our first hatch. 18 chicks and 3 ducklings. Bitter sweet, but we know we can’t keep them all. We did keep our favorite 2 chicks and our first turkey hatchling. And we got more turkeys and ducks in the incubator that should be hatching soon.
