Today was picking and pressing day with Blake. Every couple years, we get together and spend a day picking some apples or pears and then pressing them.

Our event this year was an adventure as we were going to pick pears from a friend's tree but we only ended up with a third of a bucket and me taking a fall out of the tree.

So, we opted to go and buy some bushels of apples (not economical) to be able to press today. We drove from my house to Apple Holler in Kenosha in a long road trip.

Then, we drove our fruit to Blake's house to press them on his 150 year old press which is always fun.

After several other mishaps, we did manage to get 4 gallons of very expensive juice.

Hopefully, it will turn out good.

In all the excitement of being at NHC (National Homebrew Conference and Competition) in Asheville, NC, I forgot to take time to post my Silver medal from First Round for my Common Cider named "Giving It A Try".

In the Final round judging, it scored 41, 41, and 39 from the judges and, I was told by one of the judges that it was the only Cider from their flight to advance to Mini-BOS.

I didn't win a final round medal but my Cider made a good showing. Something to be proud of!

We had a good day at Wortapalooza today taking home Gold in the Specialty Cider category with "Tropical Spice" aka "Florida Cranberry and Baies Roses", my Hibiscus and Pink Peppercorn Cider.

Then, from there I took 3rd place Best of Show for Meads/Ciders.

Overall, a fine day!

Finally received the hardware from the Washington DC competition from March... a Gold medal from the DC Homebrewers Cherry Blossom Competition for my German Helles Exportbier named "Beautiful Boy".

This beer was brewed in honor of the birth of my first grandchild born in December.

Just wrapped up a 2nd batch of beer from Big Brew Day last weekend. I had 3 gals of extra wort from last weekend and stored it in my keg cooler for a week.

I pulled it out and boiled up a mini-batch of Red IPA today.

It was a bit windy outside so I had the bonus brew in the house today.

Small crowd brewing for Big Brew Day at Church Street Brewing Company.

Wort for the day is Red Ale but I'm transforming it with a mini-mash and some Munich into a Märzen.

Fresh Augustiner yeast provided by Church Street will provide the rocket fuel for fermentation.

Just finished brewing batches #5 & #6 of 2026... and also my 400th batch for Kilted Hop Brewing. (425 all-time)

Today's brew day was two variations of my Tropical Stout "Parrot Spit"!

Overall, the day went well with only one mishap with my mash tun.

My beverages for the day were, for the most part, non-alcoholic. I was evaluating a new product for a friend... the Sober Carpenter. Interesting stuff that worked well with the day and tasted pretty good.

I also bottled a new mead which was an old mead reimagined. I made a Mango blossom Traditional in March 2021 that has remained hot and somewhat dry. I tweaked it with some Amoretti lemon flavoring, some oak, and backsweetened it a bit. It's now a Limoncello mead.
