🦆Here I am with my Duck Egg Spill once again....

Our ducks are such super good birds! The girls are really crankin' out the eggs-- so much so that even with our regular egg customers and using them ourselves, we still have an abundance.

Never tried duck eggs? We'll give you your first 1/2 dozen 🆓‼️ We also have Chicken Eggs if you prefer- LOTS of those, too!

🗨️ Hey Lindy ... If you keep collecting tons more eggs than you can use or supply to customers, why are you keeping so many birds??
🤣Partly, insanity. I freely admit having way more chickens, ducks, geese and quail than necessary for any rational human. BUT! This ol' world we live in is much too unpredictable for me to feel comfortable reducing flocks to a number where we only get "enough" eggs. Right now, we have the luxury of eating fresh eggs and the occasional bird which are both tons better than grocery store eggs & meat price & health wise. I'd rather have several more birds running around as potential food sources than worrying about next week's grocery bill.

Rusty and Gus waiting patiently while their kid brothers were getting new hair-doos. All 4 of our boys have the same Belgian sire. Rusty and Gus are full brothers from a super nice black Percheron mare. Their little brothers are from a pair of nice Belgian mares. So, it's a smallish herd of brothers 🥰

The days are getting fewer between a brooder free lifestyle and absolute chick mayhem here. Next month, I hope to have a good round of chicks from our Rainbow Layers to grow out over Winter. I'm undecided on hatching lots of Bantam Cochins so I'll just see where fate leads us.

I'm trying to stay dedicated to this egg adventure in order to rebuild that awesome basket of color I was so proud of in past years, so getting a good bunch of chicks from our 1st gen hens back-crossed to Marans will hopefully carry us in the right direction.

I hope to expand our color variety even more with White Leghorns, more Welsummers & Legbars and hopefully some breeds to bring us more heavily speckled eggs. If anybody out there in my localish reach has something or can point me in the direction of excellent hatching eggs or a good selection of proven unique color layers - I'm ready for recommendations and referrals!
