Curing homemade bacon for the first time. This week we home processed our first pig. It was a ton of work but so rewarding and much cheaper than a processor. In about a week we’ll get to taste this šŸ„“

I’m so ready for spring!

We found these beautiful turkey tail mushrooms on an evening hike. This spring we’ll be starting our own crop of shiitake mushrooms. Hopefully our logs will produce shiitake mushrooms for several years off of one inoculation.

Who knows, maybe next spring you’ll see shiitake šŸ„ā€šŸŸ« on the farmstand.

How it all started…

Since not all of you know us I thought I’d share a little about our family and how we got here.

We’re the Clark Family: Bobby, Laura, and our two girls and we live just outside Elk Mound. A few years ago we bought 20 acres with the plan to build a house and have a small farm. Since purchasing our property we’ve built a pole shed, garden , and completed several other small improvements while working out the details of our forever home.

We’ve always enjoyed having farm animals (we’ve had chickens and ducks in the past) and over the past few years we’ve added some larger animals like our goats and pigs thanks to the encouragement of our in-laws and neighbors. We currently sell eggs, chickens, pork, and goat kids. Soon we’ll also be able to offer sustainable meat birds (American Bresse), Cream Legbar chickens and hatching eggs, rabbits, and piglets.

While our house still hasn’t broke ground we’re working hard to cultivate our homestead and have come a long way. We plan to bring you along for the build as we start the next chapter and expand our homestead šŸ’•
