Paulus Farms

Paulus Farms FOCUSED ON FORAGE - Offering a wide variety of quality hay to best meet the needs of your animals Our goal is to provide both.
(8)

It's hard to find consistent quality hay, and often even harder to find good service. We partner with dairies, stables, or individuals and hobby farms to provide what you want when you want it. We are Ben and Brad, brothers raised on a small local dairy farm. Paulus Farms was started in 2016 as we saw a need for quality local grown hay to supply high end stables in the area. We have 40 years combi

ned experience from raising hay on the farm, plus continued insight from the quality control department (Dad). Brad has also achieved certification as an Animal Nutritionist. We have grown to over 200 acres of locally grown grass, alfalfa, and mixed hay. In addition we have developed relationships with suppliers from Canada and Nebraska for quality hay from low-humidity environments. Please feel free to reach out to us to see how we can help you and your animals!

Not what we intended when we mowed this 7 days ago. What a week. Just can't beat heavy dews, shrinking daylight, and Indiana humidity. Last of 3rd cutting, wrapping it, and starting 4th tomorrow. Hope it goes better than 3rd, we knew this year started too easy.

We may give him a lot of crap, but we're so thankful for employees that are willing to come straight from their day jobs to help bale hay, even when we give them last minute notice. And it's his birthday. There's still good employees out there. Happy Birthday Darren!!!
Edit: Yes Larry, you too 😂

Last weeks auction purchase showed up, another one from Minnesota. Pretty big upgrade from a pull behind, but we're finding ourselves spraying almost every cutting of hay now and it adds up.
Why do we spray so much? Bugs. Not only are they detrimental to the quality of the hay by eating the leaves, certain types can also be hazardous to your critters. Just one more thing we do to try and have the best product available.

Who's interested in "smoked hay"? Works for people right? Surely horses feel the same 🤷‍♂️

Hard not to like this. Yield sucks but quality is 👌

Well that’s a wrap. First cutting 2023 in the books. Here are some stats:

5200 smalls
100 dry big bales
100 wrapped big bales
150 rye bales

Thankful for everyone that helped, especially Larry, Darren, Nate, and Ryan, couldn’t do it without a good crew.

Oh and thanks to our wives for making sure we stay well fed out in the field 😁

Well this escalated quickly. 50 acres to go!

If you're looking for some heavy grass hay with low NSC for metabolic horses, this is the stuff you want. Nice soft 1st cutting, easy to chew but won't put the weight on. Only $6 a bale! Message us to place an order!

Who loves the smell of fresh baled hay? Welcome back summer.

What's this??
Been a little busy this week to post an update. Absolutely beautiful 1st cut mix on the way!

05/12/2023

A view from the cockpit as we make our last pass for planting season 2023. Seems it’s gone as fast as it came. Hopefully we can get a couple nights with more than 6 hours of sleep before 1st cut starts next week 😴

And down goes the rye, giving the tractor a workout!

05/08/2023

Uh oh. Planter catching up.

05/06/2023

Knocking out corn acres today.
We try and treat all leased ground like our own, which includes the not so fun job of picking up rocks. Darren is todays expert rock picker, and he's rocking it.

Last order filled for 2022 hay! We do still have a little bit left:
Nice 1st cutting mix - $7

1st cutting grass/clover mix - $4 (not horse quality)

Mulch hay $2 - this is leftover from 2021 that we just want out of the barn. Would work great for garden or lawn seeding.

We're 2-3 weeks away from 1st cutting, but no guarantee it will be quality hay this time of year.

Pretty sure they've never all been clean at the same time. Well, clean-ish.

What a beautiful morning for a few deliveries!
100 days until 1st cut... feels like it's right around the corner but it's not. We still have a couple thousand super nice 2nd cutting small squares available, and a few big bales also. Reach out if you won't make it until May, or June if you want 2nd cutting quality.
Wrapped hay is sold out.

Couple of days late but our Christmas present has finally arrived!
Meet Brutus, the new baler and main tillage tractor. Should help us get thru some of our muck a little easier.... at least that's the goal.
Stay tuned for pics of Brutus buried to the frame in the near future.

Thought we had plenty of inventory until 1/4 of it sells in one day. Been a busy one.

Focused on Forage

It’s hard to find quality locally grown forage, and sometimes even harder to find good service. At Hoosier Custom Ag it’s our goal to provide both. We partner with dairies, stables, and individuals to supply exactly what you want, when you want it. With over 60 years of collective farming experience, educational background, and even certification as animal nutritionist, we try to grow the hay that best suits you.

We maintain 300+ acres of intensely managed hay including Orchard Grass, Timothy, Meadow Fescue, Festolium, and Alfalfa in a variety of blends. These are not pastures and ditches, so you can rest easy knowing your livestock are not getting weeds or other potentially harmful materials in your feed.

Hay is offered in 14” x 18” small square bales or 3’ x 3’ large square bales. Please message us for availability and prices. Our goal is to be a partner, so current customers take priority on availability. If you struggle with consistent year-round supply, please contact us to discuss your needs.

In addition to hay sales, we offer custom baling and chopping services.
