This year, we've experienced some pretty hard hits in our family. Unfortunately, we received some bad news yesterday about Nicole's family in Kentucky and we will be missing both Historic Manassas Farmers Market and Charlottesville City Market this weekend as we travel to be with them. We greatly appreciate all of our friends and customers support and understanding and we hope to see you all the following weekend when we are back.

Happy Saturday Guys. I'm out here at the Historic Manassas Farmers Market from 8-1 today with fresh never frozen pasture raised chicken, heritage breed pork, turkey presales and eggs. Unfortunately, we will not be at the Charlottesville City Market today due to Nick having to attend a funeral. Have a great weekend everyone.

Is there a better way to celebrate a birthday then by processing chickens......it wasn't on my bingo card but I'll take it. Here's to more birthdays producing high quality chicken.

Well folks that's a wrap to one of the biggest and best parties I think we will ever host, all to honor Lori. All in all, we BBQ'd 2 whole pigs and 100 chicken halves. Pigs were on the fire at 0830 and came off at 4ish. We estimated feeding over two hundred and what a beautiful afternoon we had to celebrate Lori. We want to thank everyone who made this happen:

My Father Andy Dixon

All of my aunts: Lisa, Debbie, Sandy, Pam, and Ann for all of the love, support and help since Mom was diagnosed to now and with this event.

Chef Tanya Cauthen from Belmont Butchery
Paul Boulden Jr. and family from Studley Farms
Pit Crew: Jeremiah Baugher, Byron Faidley, Matt Thompson, Jon Hampton, Nick Cash.

The Riverbank Farms crew.

Ashley Yanego Kuhler from Shady Hill for floral arrangements.

Chef Craig Hartman and his team from BBQ Exchange for all the amazing sides and sauces.

Katie Pickett Ameigh for documenting the event.

There are so many other people to thank and people who deserve thanks for actions and help I didn't even see, thank you all.

And most importantly, Nicole, for pouring her heart and soul into every little detail, from hand made invitations, to poetry stations, crow food bags, kids activities and so many more ways to honor Mom. We know Mom was smiling and she was around us the whole time.

Good morning and happy Friday everyone. This weekend is going to be a busy one for us with Mom's party coming up. We will still be at the Charlottesville City Market this weekend from 9-1, but due to the amount of prep and set up on Saturday we will not be at the Historic Manassas Farmers Market this weekend. We hope everyone has a great weekend and we will be back next.

If you've followed us for any time you know that Belmont Butchery in Richmond Virginia is one of the greatest places to get our birds. If you haven't been to Belmont you might not know about the woman behind the shop or why what they do is so special. Chef Tanya Cauthen, is a legend in the culinary and meat cutting world. She cut her teeth in the restaurant and catering industry (she also won Chopped on Food Network) until one day she decided to open up a whole animal butchery at a time when meat cutting was becoming a thing of the past (because she's a badass and why not). Chef Tanya and her team are rare in a world of cheap, easy, fast meat and they give customers the true experience and quality of knowing their local butcher. In addition to the shop, Tanya also farms, mentors producers and was just accepted into the newest Virginia Agriculture Leaders Obtaining Results class. She is a dear friend and mentor to us and we are so thankful that she will be helping us smoke and cook the main proteins for Mom's celebration of life. Thank you so much Chef.

Without Paul Boulden Jr. and Studley Farms this celebration of life would not be possible. Besides Paul sourcing the pigs, and volunteering to help with cooking them, Riverbank Farms wouldn't exist without him. Jack has known Paul for a long time, a fellow lover of history and a fellow Keydet, Paul was one of the irresponsible people who talked Jack into going to Virginia Military Institute (I still blame him because he only told me about the fun parts). Paul, like most VMI guys, knew mom and were always welcomed into our home growing up and when I was at school. When I started thinking about getting into farming I had been out of touch with Paul, but I reached out and that friendship immediately rekindled. Paul has mentored us, helped us and has just been one of the best friends we have. Studley Farms is located in Hanover county and offers the widest variety of custom in-house made sausages and meat in the Commonwealth. Paul is also a graduate of Virginia Agriculture Leaders Obtaining Results , and a massive advocate for Virginia agriculture with Virginia Farm Bureau Federation . When he's not farming, Paul is a nuclear engineer and jet sets across the world to work on projects everywhere imaginable. Thank you so much to Paul, Kim, the girls, and the whole Studley family.
