Some of the younger members of the crew are learning new life and work skills and getting this week's fresh product ready for your kitchen table. We are proud of our crew, our birds, and of customers for choosing to let us feed and fuel them so they can live wonderful lives as well.

Over the last few Saturdays at Historic Manassas Farmers Market and Charlottesville City Market, we've been getting some good questions from customers about our methods and products. There has been a particular question though that has come back a few times, "Do you feed your chickens grain?"

Yes we do. So this morning, I just wanted to make a quick video about why. You as the customer are not expected to know everything. It's on producers to be honest about their practices and methods. Now if there is someone out there who has eliminated their feed bill and can still produce a 5lb bird in 8 weeks.....please contact us, because we want to learn.

Yesterday, we had our first processing since Mom's passing. When we first started the farm, it took us ( Mom, Dad, Nicole and I) 8 hours just to get 20 birds from alive to whole birds in an ice bath. Yesterday, it took us three hours to get one hundred and twenty birds on ice and then only a few more to part and package the whole batch. It felt like something was different, with her absence, just being able to tell her how well it went, but also in knowing she'd be just as happy as we were with our speed and efficiency. We're going to keep producing the best chicken we know how, and we also know Lori is going to be with us as we do it. This afternoon, Lori, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. Mom was the biggest supporter of us starting our farm. From not thinking I was crazy when I broached the idea ( I think she knew how much we were about to impose on everyone around us), to showing us the proper way to break a bird down, to training everyone on what to do. Next, she was willing to run Greene Farmers Market for us where she met so many amazing folks and made great friends. She will be so missed but will always have a legacy and role in our farm even if she's not here.

Good morning everyone. As our friends and family already know, Jacks mom Lori, entered hospice care at home a few days ago, after a hard fight against leukemia. This Saturday, we'll have Nick over at the Charlottesville City Market from 9-1 and unfortunately, Jack will be missing the Historic Manassas Farmers Market today. Have a great weekend and we thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
