These lambs are now 4 months old. They are weaned and their job is to eat and grow! Which they are doing nicely. Many of the Ram lambs are being sold to breed on other farms. Some of the Ram lambs will be feeding us and our community in the future. The ewe lambs will go into the pastures soon to continue to grow. All of the ewes will be bred in November for new lambs to arrive in April, 2027.

Our breakfast this morning was not purchased at your typical grocery store. All of our food items were grown right here within our local area, grown locally or regionally. We love supporting our neighbors and truly appreciate their support. Thank you, to the local farmers in our area who helped provide a very delicious and nutritious breakfast! 😍

Yep!! It’s hay season! We cut and bale many acres of grass hay on our farm. We use the hay to feed not only our own livestock but also to sell to our neighbors within our local community. We can get spread pretty thin around here! So a very unexpected call I received from a young ambitious man this week, was also very welcomed! The help that was offered was a wonderful blessing! We got the first of several pastures cut, baled and stacked for future use! We are experiencing a serious drought period, here in WNC and we were expecting much lower yields of hay off our pasture, but with gratefulness, we feel blessed to have gotten as much hay as we did off this small section. We will continue to keep praying for rain!

There are so many really goods days on our farm. Days where we feel like we need to pinch ourselves to make sure that this life is truly real. But farming has many highs and lows. Some days are just really low….like the loss of a favorite animal is one of the lowest days😢. You see many of our livestock are strictly for production. Meaning that they are raised with care, and respect; but their purpose is to feed and nourish our bodies, so our attachment to them runs a shorter time period and it’s understood that their time with us is limited. Also on this farm we have our “pet” livestock category, and that’s where my favorite donkey Ferris sat. Oh….he had a job around here for sure. He played a big role as a livestock guardian to our sheep and cattle. But more important to us than even his job, Ferris was a silly boy that just brought us joy daily🥰. He has been missed this week and will forever be a favorite in our hearts. As strange as the day Ferris died was, an even stranger occurrence took place. Near his body, for no good reason, but to help us heal, a beautiful large heart shaped rock lay near him on the ground, I cannot explain its appearance but am grateful that in the moment of true heartbreak a small piece of joy appeared, just as promised!

Our 1st experience of raising our own chicken and processing them ourselves is now under our belt! This has been a big learning experience, purchasing the right birds, finding the equipment to house them properly, which feed will we use? Investigating and finding the right equipment to process them has all taken time, but all and all this went very well. We now have close to 200 # of humanely raised, humanely processed chicken that will feed our family and community.

Today was a day to be remembered!! I received a call this morning that no one ever wants to ever get! Yep, I was told by our neighbor that the cows got through the fence! They are down the road on a “walk about”! We jumped in the truck and with the help of awesome neighbors the hunt began! You wouldn’t think that a nearly 1000 # four legged cow could hide so easily! After several hours they were found and with prayer answered they walked into our neighbors pasture to be contained once again! The good news was that we met some great new neighbors! We are so thankful for the kindness in our community and that strangers, now new friends are so willing to lend a hand! Also, no one was hurt!

Today was a very good day! Lord I am so thankful 🙏Perfect weather, perfectly orchestrated separation of the lambs from the ewes. Now the BAWLING begins! So sorry neighbors!!😬 However, one of my sheep loving neighbors told me he thought it was a “glorious” sound! These ewes have been wonderful mothers, who are now deserving of a rest! We have some really nice Ewe lambs to add to next year’s breeding stock, and some well structured Ram lambs that will be used for breeding and for nourishing our bodies.

🚨I'd like to take a minute to reiterate something.

See that man on that tractor? That's my husband.
He's also a son, a brother and most importantly a daddy to three amazing kids. I'm not always available to follow him to fields, so if you come up behind him you can do one of three things:

✔️You can hang tight because he'll move over as soon as it's safe.

❌️ Swear at him and try and pass him in an unsafe manner that will put his life in danger.

✔️ Lastly you can slow down, take in the view and say a prayer for him, his crops and family.

It's not a hard decision....
