The weather is still not cooperating like we would hope, but never fear we still have yummy fresh veggies! Tomorrow's box will be a lot like last week... lettuce, romaine, radishes, and spinach, but will also include green onions. The good news is it looks like we may have broccoli and cabbage next week, and we will DEFINITELY have cherries next week!

First boxes are all put together and ready. We have green leaf lettuce, romaine, radishes, rhubarb, frozen strawberries (picked over the last 2 weeks) and spinach.

Greetings everyone! It’s just over two weeks before the first box is due and I wanted to touch base and let you all know how things are going, and what to expect as we embark on this journey together.

First off I need to let you all know that since my son is graduating from COCC with a nursing degree on June 15th, I will need to make other pickup arrangements for the first box. I will be home Monday 6/18 and will be available for you to come out to the farm on Monday to pick up the boxes rather than Saturday. Alternately I can waive the delivery fee for this week since I will not be there Saturday. Those that work at KVH I can bring the boxes to you at work on Monday afternoon.

Second, regarding box contents for the first box, some things are not progressing along as well as I had hoped. We still have time and with good weather everything will be fine, but we may not have as much of a variety for this first box as we had planned. The radishes of course are doing great, as my grand dad used to say “you can grow radishes on a wet 2x4…” and we will certainly also have both romaine and green leaf lettuce in plenty, as well as some chives, but our Rainier cherries are being slow to ripen as are the cherry tomatoes and strawberries. If those don’t get ready by the 18th, then they will just be added to the next box and we should be on track then.

So to sum up, the first box will definitely contain:

Romaine lettuce
Green leaf lettuce
Easter Blend radishes (pink, purple, white and red)
Chives

If things progress as hoped it will also contain:

Rhubarb
Strawberries
Cherry tomatoes
Rainier cherries.

As for quantities, we will do our best to have 10-14 servings of fruits and veggies per person in each box, but it might just be more lettuce and radishes the first go round. I assure you that we have been working hard and in the end you will all receive an abundance of produce throughout the summer, but the weather has been weird and things just aren’t growing as fast as we would like. We hope you will understand.

Is Farmer Tim’s Produce an Organic farm?

While we do practice sustainable farming methods, such as using no commercial fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides, we are not a Certified Organic Farm and never intend to be. We believe that simply being a Certified Organic Farm does not mean you are sustainable or that you actually use good farming practices. We believe in farming the way our grandparents did, using common sense, crop rotation and available natural fertilizers and pest control methods such as compost, farm animal manure and using plants and predatory insects as pest control. If you have any specific questions or would like to watch how we do things, just ask. Farmer Tim will talk your ear off about “The way Grandma used to do it.”
