Peace out, Children's Hospital!

I honestly can't believe we're heading home after Elsie's open heart surgery on Monday. She's doing so well that she hasn't even needed Tylenol since last night. Today she wanted to race across the skyway, which has me thinking the surgery might not have been the hardest part after all. Keeping this kid from running, jumping, and climbing until August 10 is going to be the real challenge.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed, checked in, sent messages, and supported our family this week. We have felt so loved.

One thing I'll never forget is how Elsie treated every single person who cared for her. Even after scary procedures, through tears and catching her breath, she still managed a smile, a high five, a hug, and a "thank you." That's just who she is.

We're ready to get home, see the boys, and start the next part of recovery.

It's hard to believe, but all of this is happening less than 30 hours after they closed her chest.

Her chest tubes are out. She never needed the temporary pacemaker. She never required any blood products. She's off oxygen, walking the halls, riding the elevator, enjoying popsicles and apple juice, and looking more and more like herself with every passing hour.

I didn't fully appreciate how extraordinary this recovery has been until I had coffee with a dear friend whose son had a very different experience with his open heart surgery. Every heart journey is different, and we certainly don't take any of this for granted.

We know we're not at the finish line yet, but we are overwhelmed with gratitude. God has been so faithful, and we are incredibly thankful for the skilled hands caring for Elsie and for every single prayer that has been lifted on her behalf. Please keep praying as she continues to heal.

Our darling Elsie Lou will be undergoing open heart surgery this morning. Please take a moment to lift her up and cover her in prayer. I look forward to posting a praise report later today. Thank you 💕

Day 2 of VBS is in the books!

The clouds and breeze kept things a little cooler today, making for another wonderful day at the Barnyard. We spent time learning about God's love and the amazing world He created, and talked about bravery through the story of Daniel and the lions' den.

Verse of the Day:
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

We can't wait to see what Day 3 has in store!
