A Little Food Truck Math ❤️🚚🍔
We absolutely LOVE being part of local events, festivals, fundraisers, and community gatherings. ❤️ Supporting our community and meeting new customers is one of the best parts of what we do!
But there’s a side of food trucking that isn’t always visible from the outside — we have to do the math, too.
When we’re deciding whether an event is a good fit, we have to consider things like:
🍔 How many people are actually expected to attend
🚚 How many food vendors will be there
💰 What the average customer is likely to spend
🎟️ Whether food is included with admission or being provided elsewhere
⏰ How many hours we’ll be at the event
⛽ Travel, fuel, staffing, food, supplies, and other operating costs
💵 Vendor fees and other event expenses
For example, an event may advertise 500 attendees, but if only a portion actually attends, several vendors are competing for those customers, and some food is being provided for free, the numbers can look very different from what they did on paper.
This is NOT us saying an event has to guarantee sales. We understand that every event is a gamble and that attendance can never be guaranteed.
We simply want event organizers to understand that when a food vendor asks questions about attendance, the number of vendors, vendor fees, food being provided, or expected turnout, we’re not being difficult — we’re trying to determine if we can make the event financially work.
We LOVE showing up. We LOVE supporting other small businesses. We LOVE being part of our community. ❤️
But at the end of the day, we’re a small family-owned business, and we have to make responsible decisions that allow us to keep our doors open, pay our employees, cover our expenses, and continue serving our community.
So when you’re planning your next event, please remember your food vendors are businesses, too. ❤️
The more accurate information you can provide, the better we can determine if we’re the right fit for your event.
We appreciate every organizer who works with us, communicates with us, and understands that it truly has to be a win-win for everyone. 🙌
Support local. Support small businesses. And let’s make events work for EVERYONE! 🚚❤️
