Those trucks spraying lawns for weeds and mosquitoes aren't just killing dandelions—they're increasing cancer in our dogs and wiping out the bees that feed us.
Studies show that professionally applied lawn pesticides increase the risk of canine lymphoma by 70%. Dogs exposed to common herbicides like 2,4-D are also at higher risk for bladder cancer.

But here's the bigger crisis: bees pollinate one-third of our food supply. Every year, commercial beekeepers report losing 30% of honey bee colonies, and pesticides—especially neonicotinoids used on lawns—are a major culprit.

In early spring, dandelions and wildflowers are often the only food sources bees have until mid-June. Please don't spray until after blackberries bloom. What we call weeds, bees call survival.

No bees, no food. You make the call. 🤷‍♂️

Didn't think we'd get much sap today, but this afternoon was way more productive than expected! And honestly? Great timing with this brutal wind coming through. The buckets are weighted down now—some already half full on single trees—so they're staying put tonight. 🍁Sometimes the trees know best!

We've had a lot of inquiries about the bees and this freeze. Let me try to explain how the bees survive winter weather.

When it gets cold, honey bees form a tight “winter cluster” around the queen and the brood area (if any). Think of it like a living, breathing insulation ball:
Outer bees = insulation jacket. Bees on the outside pack closely together to reduce heat loss and block drafts. They’re cooler and more still, acting like the “shell” of the cluster.
Inner bees = heaters. Bees in the center generate heat by vibrating their flight muscles (the same muscles used for flying), but they don’t flap their wings this “shivering” turns food energy (honey) into warmth.
They rotate to share the job. Bees take turns outer bees gradually move inward to warm up, and warmer bees move outward to replace them. This slow, constant rotation prevents the outside bees from getting dangerously cold.
The cluster adjusts like a thermostat. When it’s colder, the cluster tightens to conserve heat. When it warms up a bit, it loosens so bees can move to nearby honey stores and ventilate.
