I made it a point to make a small amount of maple syrup this spring. Carved two weeks away from traveling for my day job. We’ll have a limited supply of Black Squirrel wood fired maple syrup this summer when the sweetcorn stand is open.

This is something new to me and culturally very different. I’m growing some zucchini for some friends to take to a Hispanic market in Aurora on Sunday mornings. So far we’ve picked probably 45-50 gallon ziplock bags of flor de calabaza or squash(pumpkin) flowers. Started picking the first of the zucchini fruits this morning too. If anyone is interested in buying some to try let me know and I can arrange to have some saved here in the fridge.

We’ll have watermelons and cantaloupe for the weekend (Sept 6-8) again. This may be the last of the cantaloupe for the summer, we’ll see if the weather cooperates to ripen more. Sweetcorn needs a few more days to fill out so none this weekend but maybe middle of next week.

We’re out of sweetcorn again for probably 10 days. There are two more patches left so it’s not over yet but getting close.

Stocked back up with black diamond watermelons, cantaloupe, and the best sweetcorn in IL for your Labor Day celebrations. I also got a couple of Orange Crisp watermelons and some big seed melons. The orange crisp are not as sweet and have a firmer texture but great flavor.

Summer is back and so are watermelons and muskmelons. I’ll be back home around 5:30 with a fresh load of melons from Beardstown.

We’re out of fresh sweetcorn until sometime next week, probably Wednesday.

Sweetcorn update Aug 16. Probably won’t get any corn picked and out on the wagon today. I’m coming back from a business trip today and there just isn’t anyone available to pick today. We will have corn out tomorrow with a load of fresh picked cantaloupe and watermelons tomorrow. The patch I’m picking now will last until maybe Monday/Tuesday. Once this is gone there will be a 1-2 week break and then we’ll have about 3 more weeks of the vest sweetcorn around. I’ll get watermelon and cantaloupe for as long as they are available.

If you got a watermelon in the last couple days that wasn’t up to the level you expected please send a message and I’ll replace it. I’m on my way to get another batch today.

We have some really honest folks that come and buy corn and things here. I bagged up some of the leftover ears from Friday to get rid of Saturday morning and it was more than a dozen in a bag and totally on purpose. Nina, I appreciate your honesty but come back and get another dozen on me. That heavy dozen was on purpose and it wasn’t a mistake on anyone’s part.

We’re closed today. Will be back tomorrow morning with bicolor sweetcorn corn, black diamond watermelon, and cantaloupes from Beardstown.

Wagon is loaded up with melons and corn this morning. I’m on a business trip this week so this will be all the melons until I get back Thursday or I can get someone to drive to Beardstown for me this week with the trailer. We’ll continue to have fresh picked sweetcorn all week. Probably change from the white corn back to bicolor sometime this week.
