This weekend was all about making memories around our family and the farm! The weekend kicked off with showing at the Exit 69 Royal Rumble. Wasn’t our best weekend but that didn’t stop us from having fun and making memories! Turkey hunters 🦃 were out to see if they could spot the tom before they spoted them. Some of the turkey hunters got put to work and learned farmer communication can be a little hard to understand. 🤷‍♂️ And some of these moves you don’t want to try at home! 🤣 Thanks for great friends for last minute support! Last but least a couple more babies were born! 🍼We also got to celebrate and honor the next generation in their faith! What a weekend but I think all of us were ready for Monday to come around! ❤️🙏

I love Facebook memories!! Two years ago today I posted about a plan we had moving away from corn and soybeans on our fields to pasture for our cows. We are about two weeks away from this plan being implemented and a year away from seeing if the plan worked. We will be moving cows on to these new pasture hopefully for 12 months out of the year and for them to able to graze on grass 9 months out of the year. We knew we had to change for the sustainability of our farm. We have steep and small fields and the equipment is getting bigger which makes it harder and harder for us. Also our inputs (fertilizer, seed, diesel, etc.) to put theses crops in the ground are extremely high and getting higher every year but the prices we get are lower or the same has 10 years ago. It has been a lot of work over the last 2 years and we are so close to the finish line! I can’t wait to share pictures of the completed plan! Thank you to all you have helped us along the way! It took a village to get us here!!

Earth Day 🌎 is more then just a day for farmers, it is a way of life!! We get to celebrate our practices on April 22nd but really every day we are thinking about how can we leave the land better today then yesterday. We have been doing conservation practices since my parents buy our farm in the 80’s and we carry on that tradition today! In the photo below underneath the words, David just got done planting 100’s of thousands of different varieties or grass seeds into this pasture not only to feed our cattle but to put natural nutrients back into the soil. By planting different species of grasses and legumes this can help naturally put nutrients back in the soil. Also when we put our cattle on the pasture they will naturally fertilize 💩the soil as well. We hope everyone does there small part to celebrate 🙌 Earth Day. It can be as little as picking up a piece of trash on the ground, to planting flowers 🌻 or maybe a tree🌳. It all helps!!

It was a good day for Payton and Sliver Star Farm! 🏆Her Reckoning heifer Lovaly got pulled in for Championship drive for the breeding heifer show. The first group in the 2nd place heifers so you have to wait until the second comes in and she is the second person to walk in!! She shows again tomorrow. Send good vibes her way!

Man —— I needed to see this rainbow last night as a reminder that we are not going to need to buy a boat anytime soon to get to the farm but I was really starting to wonder!?! The frustration is real with all this rain which = MUD! The creeks are full, fields are flooded and cows are walking in mud. We are looking forward to sun ☀️soon! 🙏Our prayers go out to our neighbors in Union Center that got hit with a tornado last night! 🙏🙏

😱Surprise?!?! 😱 Well that was not what we were expecting when we went out to check Sweet Pea and her calf yesterday morning! Wait 2 calves? What? We had never seen this before. Several hours after she had the first one she had a second healthy baby girl. Yup she had twins girls! I almost would not have believe she did if she wasn’t the only cow in the pasture! Well hello to these cuties!!

1st baby calf of 2026 is a GIRL!! 🍼
Sweet Pea did so well that I went to go get something and within 5 minutes she had her, was already standing up, licking her baby off, to get her dry. She is such a good momma and is always the 1st or 2nd cow in our herd to have her calf in the spring. We are excited to watch this girl grow as she could possibly be Payton’s show heifer for next year. Always planning!! Her Daddy’s name is Reckoning and we have been very excited with the calves we got from him last year and he has been known to get some champions in the show ring! 🏆

Happy National Farm Animal Day!! 🐷🐮🐑🐴 🐓🦃

We maybe a little partial to our black beauties, but they are definitely our favorite farm animal!! From early mornings, to late night feedings, to check-ins and prayers doing all this rain we have been getting, to hugs and kisses —- they’re at the heart ❤️ of everything we do!!
