You might have seen this peculiar looking jeep out on the roads or even driving thru the fields here recently. It is set up with a John Deere display and receiver with RTK GPS. But why though?

RTK is sub 1” accuracy GPS and is repeatable year after year, vs the standard free signal that many tractors run called WAAS which gets you within 6-8” and is not repeatable, sometimes drifting left or right when you get out to fill the planter.

We are using this high accuracy GPS signal to map our fields that we spray for customers. Especially those with waterways which are very prevalent on many of our hill fields in the area to preserve soil and prevent erosion. So accidentally spraying and killing those is a very costly mistake for the growers we work with.

Our current John Deere sprayers are equipped with Exact Apply, which is nozzle by nozzle shutoffs every 15 inches, compared to a traditional sprayer with 5 to 15 ft. Section shutoffs. With these fields mapped out, our sprayers are able to take full advantage of Exact Apply and can shut off exactly at the edge of the field edge or waterway, as each nozzle gets there, saving those precious waterways.

This is just another way that MFA is partnering with the growers we work with to help them be good stewards of the land 🚜 🛰️ 🌽 🌾

For starters, this was NOT in Missouri (actually in Michigan). But this is a good reminder for this time of year.

Farm machinery is out and about right now while conditions are dry before the next rain hits. Growers, along with Agri-Services like MFA and their equipment, are out trying to get the seed in the ground while conditions are optimal. Our machinery also has wide tires at times, or is just big in general, it moves slow in comparison to most automobiles, and has large turning radiuses.

Please be careful while driving. We ourselves are doing our best to be careful so as not to hit oncoming vehicles with our machinery, not take out mailboxes and fences close to the road, and get to our destination in a timely manner to be as efficient with our time as possible.

The photo below, that situation could have ended much worse. Had the Anhydrous Ammonia tank ruptured, well, many times people can’t get away from it fast enough if they’re pinned in their vehicles before they have inhaled it. When used correctly, NH3 is a very effective nitrogen fertilizer. But inhaling it can be harmful and life threatening.

Thanks to NIESA Fire/Rescue and the Ingham County Sheriff's Office Webberville Division for a quick response to this crash on M52!

This morning a pickup truck transporting a tank of anhydrous ammonia was hit from behind, resulting in the tank flipping over. Fortunately, nobody involved was injured.

Thankfully the tank wasn't carrying too much chemical, and all of the protective measures held in place, because that is NOT something good to spill!

It was safely uprighted and removed, and the road was cleared just after lunch.

How many remember their early years of getting to learn how to run the equipment to help out where we could on the farm? 🙋‍♂️❤️
