We have finally closed the loop!! After more than a year of work it is finally Compost spreading time on our Gibson Ranch fields. Through the Healthy Soils program with CDFA we receive grant funding to make and spread compost. Here's how we do it; We intake the horse manure from the onsite equestrian center and creat finished compost with lots of Carbon in it, We then spread the compost on the fields to grow hay and help sequester carbon in the soils, the hay produced is fed to the horses onsite, which in turn makes more manure, to then make more compost and the cycle repeats.

New Begginings

We are a small farm ran by young, first generation farmers! We are now farming 140 acres on three parcels in the Northern Sacramento County area. We operate two 20 acre farms along the East bank of the Sacramento River, and we are currently finalizing proposed operations on a 100 acres site. H&K Farms is back in the field and we are working every day to grow food for the greater Sacramento and East Bay communities.

We grow a variety of specialty vegetables, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, and melons. We also grow small grains and processing tomatoes. Additionally we also raise and offer pastured chicken and pork, with no antibiotic or hormone use. We practice agroecological farming techniques that build fertility and resilience within both the soil and the community, by respecting and working within the natural ecologies of the organisms and spaces that we farm within. We believe in building relationships with our customers and practice 100% transparency with our farming operations to ensure you are sourcing the most ethically and earth friendly food.

We have been busy in the field preparing to plant the 2020 crops. We will be expanding our operation to a new scale and are excited to extend employment and learning opportunities to the greater community. The rich Sacramento River alluvial soils provide beautiful farming capabilities, the clay content of our soils, and the rich organic matter amendments we use provides a renowned local flavor to our vegetables. We strive to steward the land and take care of the soil which we use to grow the fresh foods you enjoy, and improve variety selection to enhance flavor and produce quality.

We also own and operate two Community Farmers Markets. Saturdays in Rancho Murieta CA as well as Saturday and Sundays in Antelope CA. We offer a market for several other small and local farmers and dairymen. As well as bakers, artists, and crafters. There is something for everyone at our quaint community markets.
