This is definitely not how I expected our morning to go! Penelope was "due" last Wednesday but we know our girls go two days over a typical pig due date so we expected piglets on Friday. We watched her all throughout Wednesday and all weekend. Pigs are very strict about pregnancy timelines and she wasn't looking close to birthing at all so we figured she didn't get bred on the cycle we witnessed meaning we had a few more weeks to go. We left her in a pen with her sister outside so she could enjoy fresh grass up until she needed to be put in the barn to give birth. Well, I went to do chores this morning in the dark and heard squealing. I run over and see babies everywhere! I scooped them all up and ran them inside to try to get them warmed up. I am happy to say that after a few hours, lots of blow drying, and a belly full of colostrum later, all 9 piglets are sleeping peacefully.
