Homemade Chewy Bagels 🥯
Ingredients
• 1⅓ cups warm water
• 2¼ tsp instant yeast (1 packet)
• 1 tbsp sugar
• 3½ cups bread flour
• 2 tsp kosher salt
Boil Bath
• 4–6 cups water
• 2 tbsp barley malt syrup, honey, or brown sugar (optional)
Toppings
• 1 egg, beaten
• Sesame seeds
• Everything bagel seasoning
• Poppy seeds
Instructions
1️⃣ Mix water, yeast, and sugar. Add flour + salt and knead 8–10 min until smooth and elastic.
2️⃣ Cover and let rise 1–1½ hrs, until doubled.
3️⃣ Divide into 6 large or 9 small bagels. Roll into balls, rest 10 min.
4️⃣ Poke a hole and stretch into bagel shape.
5️⃣ Boil 1–2 min per side in sweetened water.
6️⃣ Brush with egg wash, add toppings.
7️⃣ Bake at 425°F for 20–25 min until golden.
Chewy inside. Crisp outside. Worth every step 🤍
