This weeks market star is this gorgeous baby ginger from Limerick Homegrown produce and trading post llc 🫚 I saw on the internet that they would be bringing it to the farmers market today & made sure to grab some first thing this morning! I’m going to pickle half & use the rest for a syrup (& then use the sweetened pieces for a baked good, probably vegan gingersnaps). I would have bought even more but I didn’t want to be greedy.

Last season I grew some in containers (thanks to lily) & was able to include it in CSA shares but this season I was so hyper focused on growing artichokes as my ✨special item✨ I didn’t have the time/energy & I’m just not an experienced enough grower for too many projects. Maybe next year!

GOOD MORNING YALL! 🌱 I brought some plants to market today so you can spend the weekend planting your Fall garden! We’re at Perkasie Farmers' Market until noon today! We also have delicious melons, winter squash, lettuce, peppers, grape tomatoes, summer squash & onions!

Shout out to our besties at Doe Mountain Produce & Dan & Katy Hunter & Salvaterra's Gardens & Greg Edelman for helping ya girl out this season. I feel so BLESSED to be a part of such an amazing farming community in the Lehigh Valley.

Picked some peppers & took them to Allentown for a pop-up farmers market at the courthouse. I’m a big fan of making local, organically grown produce convenient & what’s more convenient than grabbing some lettuce while handling your business (whatever that may be - no judgement here). If you want to bring the Gnar Garden to your workplace let me know!

Our next pop-up is at Sherman Street Beer Company on Sunday 09/06 from 12-3pm (but we are always at Perkasie Farmers' Market on Saturdays 9-12pm) & I’m trying to keep the farm stand at The Seed Farm stoked with lots of goodies (& if I’m not Doe Mountain Produce is).

Common or not, seeing a Great Blue Heron at the farm today was a treat, especially after hearing an Osprey yesterday! There’s lot of wildlife at The Seed Farm & while some really push my buttons (I’m looking at you DEER), it’s cool to spend time outside & see things like a baby skunk skadattling, a playful fox running or a bald eagle flying high!

I also like the idea that a visit from a Great Blue Heron is a sign to slow down & be patient but stand firm in what you believe in. This is exactly what a second year (solo) farmer growing in August needs to hear. Or maybe it was just looking for lunch? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Either way, it was cool!

Crab spiders sit & wait patiently for pests or pollinators to land & then they use their long arms to sn**ch them up & bite them, rather than making a web. I think this is a female Goldenrod because it’s white & large. Crab spiders don’t discriminate & will also consume beneficial insects. I found this one while harvesting zinnias today.

Anyway, the The Seed Farm farm stand is restocked with more okra, watermelons, tomatoes, onions, garlic & safari zucchini (which is my new favorite summer squash variety). There are also Gnar Garden tshirts available. Use the self-serve kiosk to pay. Or Venmo ladyteeth.

Sometimes the lack of time to accomplish everything is a really defeating feeling as a solo farmer but other times it’s rewarded with absolute beauty, like when I accidentally let artichokes go to flower. 💜😍
