Believe it or not gang, flower season is upon us!

We will have fabulous June blooms for every budget this Saturday and Sunday. You can find them in our farm stand, in Traverse City, or in Interlochen.

Our ever watchful Salem; ready to bulldoze Beau if he gets too close 😂

The last bottle of the day is the perfect time for some quiet contemplation, and a chance to reset before gearing up for tomorrow.

Thanks for all the well wishes everyone, I couldn’t get back to you all; but Chels and I really appreciate all your support (and watchful eyes on us)!

Thinking about what this silly little farm life means.

We aren’t ever going to be BigTime content producers. Chelsea and I just aren’t really built that way.

And that’s ok! But it means that a lot of our behind the scenes never really make it out into the world.

When you are 22 and want to farm, you have a very different expectation of what that (and the world at large) is going to be like at 35.

But between the crazy roosters, muddy oil changes, torrential downpours and breezy beach walks — Bluebird is still here.

Refreshed and ready for another year on the farm. Just a bit more grey and creaky (speaking for myself, Chelsea is ageless); and just the right combination of optimistic, realistic, and enthusiastic to keep our sanity in a world in flux.

We get up every day and get to make our dreams come true, how many are fortunate enough to say the same?

The WAY TOO EARLY outdoor planting is in the books!

Yesterday we were able to sneak one bed worth of spinach, MightyMustard, and ranunculus into the ground.

I honestly don’t know that we’ve ever planted outside in March (probably because it’s very silly).

But with just the right combination of wackiness, we had:

✅ a bed that was all alone, with overwinter crops on both sides
✅ no snow drift on it 😂
✅ not a weedy mess from last season 🙃
✅ compost that wasn’t frozen
✅ plants that needed a new home asap

It seems we really struggle to get our paper pots to plant well early in the year; so maybe we finally have it figured out??? Or possibly we just caught a lucky break yesterday🤣

Either way, it feels really nice to have the first outdoor seeding of 2026 out of the way; there is plenty more to come!

Hey hey happy March to all!
This is your reminder to secure your WEEKLY summer veggies by joining our amazing CSA!
This is Bluebirds 5TH CSA season - growing a large diversity of vegetables and fruits (my mouth is watering just thinking about strawberries and watermelon!)

Here are the deets!
- CSA season starts in JUNE and runs 24 weeks, all the way to Thanksgiving week. BUT you can choose a shorter season such as 10 weeks or 16 weeks!
- Each week we offer 6-10+ veggies/fruits per box depending on the size you choose: Small, Standard, or Large.
- We have lots of swap-out options! Our boxes are set with items- but you have the choice to swap out items from a list of others! Or ADD ON as much as you’d like!
- 6 pick up locations to choose from:
Tuesdays:
Glen arbor 9am-1pm
Grow Benzie (Benzonia) 5pm
Wednesdays:
Traverse City: Commons 5pm
Thursdays:
Bluebird Farm (Empire) 4pm-7pm
Saturdays:
TC farmers market: 8am-12pm
Sundays:
Interlochen Farmers market: 9am-2pm

FYI we never use synthetic chemicals and fertilizers- and we’ve never used a drop of herbicide!
We support bringing biodiversity BACK- nurturing a farm that teems in native plants and insects while also providing high quality, nutrient-dense veggies to our communities. Practicing regenerative methods and keeping our soil healthy.

I know people always say …

But I’m going to be real with y’all right now. Without our amazing CSA members, there is no farm!

Year in and year out, they support our vision for a local, resilient food system — right in their own backyards.

A season full of wonderful produce and flowers, grown by us and brought to you at peak freshness. We offer flexible commitments, and three sizes to fit almost everyone.

The best part? You can always swap out veggies you don’t need, each and every week!

With these ladies about half way through their gestation, we get to start tweaking their lifestyle.

They will still get as much hay, water, mineral and shelter as their fuzzy hearts desire— but heading forward, they can get extra treats and nutrient dense feed to make sure they keep good body condition heading into spring.

We are big believers in making sure they get plenty of exercise over the last months of pregnancy. This year, their barn has 3-4’ snow drifts all around 🥶, so we will be on the lookout for a good day to snowblow them a little walking path 🤣
