Thanks for all the wonderful comments regarding my "retirement"! To clarify, I am still here for friends and those who have been here enough times that they have become "family" to me. Time is a precious commodity and I plan to spend more of it in the saddle and traveling. It's always best to reach me by email: [email protected]
MERRY CHRISTMAS and MANY HAPPY TRAILS!💕💕

12/12/2019

Happy Holidays to all my horse friends. You might have noticed I changed my cover picture to a "between the ears" shot of riding with friends. I have come to the realization it's time...time to retire from being "saddled" to running my ranch and time to just enjoy life.

I will always welcome my long time friends and campers who have been here so many years that they have become family. For others, there is Garey Lake Trail Camp just one mile south of me on Michigan's Shore to Shore Trail System. It is a large and inviting campground with many picket poles and pull thru sites. You just pay a small fee to the DNR at the drop box in camp. There are pit toilets but no water or electric and you can ride all the same trails as you would from here. There is also Turtle Lake Campground 8 miles south of me that has more amenities.

I will be leaving both my website and fb page up for at least a few years as there are so many pictures and memories that you might want to look at or download. I realize there are many pictures of horses in Lake Michigan but those were taken on designated trail rides where you only take your horse in and out of the water. There is no beach riding up here. None. The Lake Michigan beaches are all part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and horses are not allowed to ride on them. For that matter, there is very little beach due to the extremely high water levels in Lake Michigan. I am making a point of this because there have been too many incidences of riders breaking the rules and giving the rest of us equine enthusiasts a bad reputation.

The horse trails up here are wonderful and maintained by those of us who live and ride here and members of the Michigan Trail Riders Association, all of whom are volunteers. I wish you all many Happy Trails and hope to see you out on the trails!

Hello horse friends - It has been a year since posting my explanation of taking last year off, which I did, and am now ready to be back in business! There will be changes however, to make less work for me and I have embraced a "keep it simple" attitude. I can only offer 6 sites (12 horses) at one time since I have additional full-time Florida residents staying here in the summer. I prefer taking reservations by email ([email protected]) since I don't keep my scheduling calendar in my head and often can't answer my phone. And please don't use Messenger! Hopefully, 2018 will be a great year for all of us! And for those who were asking...yes, I did go on a horseback riding holiday in Ireland and had the time of my life, thanks to Equitours. Happy Trails! Linda

01/07/2017

Greetings from The Pouncey Ponderosa! Hopefully, everyone made it through the holidays safely. I thought it was time to explain what I alluded to last month regarding changes here for 2017. I have decided to take the year off to do some things for myself that I have been putting off too long. I may do some traveling, visit old friends and family and certainly RIDE MORE! It came to me last Fall that after running this business for the past 10 years, I am no longer "running the ranch" it is "running me." Therefore, I am not taking any new reservations for the 2017 season.
Hold on, don't panic! Of course I will honor my standing reservations for the same groups that return every year for Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day weekends - you know who you are! And I always will welcome those who have been here so many times they have become family - you know who you are too!
For those who want to camp, ride the trails up here and enjoy the area, Garey Lake Trail Camp 1 mile south of me is open for anyone to horse camp for a small fee to the DNR. There is no water and electric but it is a great camp with plenty of picket poles. There is also Turtle Lake Campground further south that welcomes horses.
This is just for the 2017 season - I will be open again as usual the following year but with more help and maybe a few changes in how reservations and cancellations as well as arrival and departure times are concerned. Meanwhile, if you need to reach me, I welcome emails at: [email protected] Happy Trails! Linda

Always good to be a part of the MTRA trail ride at the "Empire end" and even got to ride to the water myself! Kristen and other friends rested a night here before heading home and current campers joined them at the campfire.

It would be great if this is how it really worked!
