Purdy Poultry has the purdiest chickens around!! 💁🏼‍♀️ Though I may be partial!😉 This colorful pair comes from our calico bantam cochin pen! They are no longer available as these little beauties are headed to their new home with Kim Johnson! ❤️ Enjoy your new babies!!

These handsome guys are looking for a flock of ladies to call their own!!
~8-10 weeks old and well mannered~

🩷 We breed for temperament. Which is a very important quality when it comes to roosters!! 🩷 Especially if you have small children 🩷
Info~
Bantam Calico Cochin Breed (Mature will be less than 2-3lbs) will do best with other bantam sized “hens” (Silkie, Seabright, D’Uccles etc) (prefer no other roosters within same flock) If you have enough hens and enough space these guys can potentially go together as they have been raised together thus far. They seem to coexist ok at this time.

We are in the middle of a week long heat wave 🥵☀️🥵
The high temp tomm is 100° with a heat index near 105°🔥
Chickens do NOT do well in extreme heat‼️

🤔 Did you know chickens lack sweat glands? They rely on less efficient ways to cool themselves like panting, and spreading of the wings and/or wing flapping. Their body temperature is also regulated through their wattles and combs.

🚨Signs of heat stress🚨
~Panting
~Holding wings away from the body
~decreased food and water intake
~decreased egg production

🚨Severe signs of heat stress🚨
~Pale comb and wattles
~Diarrhea

☀️Help prevent heat stress☀️

♥️ Offer cool fresh water daily with electrolytes
❤️ Provide shaded areas with tarps or shade cloths.
❤️Offer Cooling Treats
❤️Try to feed during the coolest parts of the day
❤️ Make sure your coop has proper ventilation. Open all windows/vents if possible and provide a fan if necessary

Everybody take care of yourselves snd stay cool this week. This heat can be dangerous!!
