What is Safe Zone Training? "There is a pressure to already know how to be LGBTQ+ inclusive. And while many of us want to be we don’t necessarily feel comfortable with the language, with our own level of understanding, and don’t know where to go to learn more. Safe Zone trainings are safe places for people can go to learn more, about their own gender/s*xuality and deepen their understanding of LGBTQ+ identity and issues." Offered at college campuses, schools, workplaces, Connor's Cookies of Fortune wishes to again impart - each of us has a story to tell. We encourage teens and tweens to accept themselves and others.

Safe Zone trainings are opportunities to learn about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and s*xuality, and examine prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. An

STOP RACISM: We need to be talking to our kids about racism and what needs to be addressed about differences in skin color and racial bias. Connor's Cookies of Fortune shares this article from Child & Teen Counseling about racism, teens and tweens, and the state of our country.

Considering the current political and social conversations that many of us are having, we can’t ignore the state of our country and I hope these few short words help.   It’s important to begin educating and taking time to talk to our children from a very young age about differences in skin colo...

Teen Ages and Stages: Your 14-to-15 Year Old
A 14 year old needs a best friend
There is still some awkwardness physically, and there can be a lot of emotional pain, loneliness and a sense of isolation.
Intellectually, new capacities are developing, such as consideration of ideas contrary to fact.
Bone growth is still more rapid than muscular growth, which results in awkward coordination.
Psychologically, there are fluctuations in mood and behavior due to raging hormones.

These teens offend easily, are self-conscious, have low self-esteem and are vulnerable to comments from others. While they can have moments of great bravado, they are prone to anxiety and fear. Emotions can shift radically from feeling superior to feeling inferior.

Egocentric and argumentative
They participate in one-sided arguments and are quite egocentric. Sometimes they will argue a point just to see if they can convince you.
Socially, 14-to-15 year olds feel they need to move away from parents emotionally.
Morally and ethically, they ask the large questions about the meaning of life and want sincere answers.
This information is taken from the research of Bettie H. Youngs, as published in her book Safeguarding Your Teenager from the Dragons of Life.

How are teenagers coping with Covid 19 social distancing? "Teenagers are at the stage in life when they are very invested in social connections and in separating from their parents. So, COVID-19 social distancing requirements have a different emotional impact on them than on adults." Connor's Cookies of Fortune honors the efforts of Nick Melvoin, Board Member Board District 4, LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District). Per a recent notification from Mr. Melvoin who actually took the time to study these statistics, "Those of us in elected office must take this moment to listen and then pursue policies that affirm, not just in our words, but also in our actions, that Black lives matter. And as with so many things, it starts with education—with removing policies that lead to Black students being suspended at three times the rate of their white peers, or rejecting proposed state budget cuts that will fall disproportionately on children of color. These, among other things, need to change as we dismantle the apparatus of institutional racism." Godspeed, Mr. Melvoin, in your efforts to change the educational environment for teens and tweens subjected to discrimination even so many years after Brown v. Board of Education. Full letter below:

"Speak up, even if your voice shakes." So says one parent to her tween daughter. Teens and tweens are most definitely paying attention to what's going on today and we at Connor's Cookies of Fortune wish to again stress just how important it is to value differences. Teens and tweens should be learning about how and why they should practice values of tolerance and embrace difference. Parents - if you’re not doing that in your actions, they will reject those messages from you. Here is a great publication from www.tolerance.org - if you're a teen scroll down to the teen section on page 37. Love, Connor and friends
