Fourtee Acres

Fourtee Acres Fourtee Acres is part of the 195 century old Williams Family Farm. She is our backbone! We have established the following goals for our beloved Fourtee Acres.
(1)

Fourtee Acres LLC© (2026) is a 45 acre minority family owned century forestry, farming, natural gardening and legacy planning operation in Eastern North Carolina. Fourtee Acres was a 62 acre (now 45 acre) minority owned family owned forestry, farming and rental property operation established in 1994 (with the birth of our youngest child) that is engaged in sustainability for the future. For Tussie

and Roxanna Williams, married in 1910 (our grandparents) farming was a way of life. Roxanna’s maternal family (The Wilkins) actually owned property prior to her marriage to Tussie and brought property into the marriage as the story goes. Together, over the years, they were able to purchase land of which 195 acres remains under family ownership to present day. Fourtee Acres is owned by Tyrone and Edna Williams along with their three sons, Trevelyn, Tremaine and Tyron. The name Fourtee Acres is a play on the proverbial “forty acres and a mule” that was promised to African-Americans after slavery, with a twist to acknowledge the “Four T’s” (Tyrone, Trevelyn, Tremaine and Tyron). The “double” EE’s at the end represent the “Energizing Effort” that Edna has brought to our family and to the continuing legacy of the Williams name. She has embraced this endeavor as her own legacy (as it is) and has made all of the work worthwhile. Our goals are: 1). Measured Succession Planning
2). Generate Sustainable Wealth and Income 3). Conservation of the environment, natural ecosystems, vegetation and wildlife through sound management practices. We believe in leaving things better than we found them, and to that end, we hope to share our story, our journey to enlighten, entertain and educate others. In the words of my late father, Luther M. Williams “It is not how long one lives, but how well one lives”.

Great time yesterday on the farm during a "sit down interview" with Purdue University (Dept of Forestry & Natural Resources) PhD Student Katherine Pivaral to discuss "Assessing Revegetation Assistance Programs for Landowners in the US". This work is to learn more about what landowners think about practice revegetation, restoration, regeneration or reforestation on their property, the challenges they face and how landowner assistance programs can better reflect their values and needs. Learned/shared a lot to help move forward for all of us!

Spent my birthday yesterday preparing a "mushroom garden" space. Our family will be guided in this endeavor by Rick Neier (Gratitude Farm & Retreat LLC). This space was cleared, logs cut and stored. In about two weeks, the inoculation of spores will occur. We are hopefully as this our first attempt! Thanks Rick and Trey!!!

Friday in the First

Tyrone Williams, a lifelong resident of Enfield in Halifax County, has dedicated his life to public service, agriculture, and strengthening his community. A retired North Carolina Department of Commerce employee with more than 30 years of state service, Tyrone spent his career supporting economic growth and opportunity across our state.

Alongside his wife, Edna, a retired Halifax County Schools educator, he operates a minority-owned century farm that provides fresh produce and agricultural-based educational opportunities to individuals and families. Through workshops, seminars, and farm tours, he helps neighbors better understand where their food comes from while promoting conservation, preservation, and land stewardship.

Tyrone’s leadership and service have earned statewide recognition, including the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the Governor’s Award for Excellence, Halifax Community College’s Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award, and honors as Farmer of the Year and Lloyd Wright Small Farmer of the Year.

We are proud to recognize Tyrone Williams for a lifetime of service, education, and commitment to uplifting families across Halifax County and beyond.

Friday on-site farm visit from Dr.Josh Humphreys and John Fenderson (Croatan Institute) as a part of our participation in their inaugural Soil Wealth Cohort! The goal of the year long journey of the 10 farms selected for this project across NC is to expand resilient soil health and community wealth. We were also fortunate to have our tenant farmer partner, Hale Family Farms Michael Brandon Hale on hand as well. Lots of discussion regarding forest health, diverse income/funding streams, and regenerative agriculture. We WILL keep moving forward!!!!
