WHO WANTS TO SPINZILLA WITH ME?
Apparently I didn't have quite enough going on this fall. 😂
The National NeedleArts Association (TNNA) asked me to captain a team for Spinzilla 2026, and I said yes! So I am officially putting together Team Aker Fiber Farm, and I'm looking for spinners who want to join me.
What is Spinzilla?
It's a week-long spinning competition and celebration running **October 5–11, 2026**. The goal is simple: SPIN! Wheel, spindle, e-spinner—use what you've got and let's see how much yarn we can make together.
Teams can have a maximum of 20 people, including the captain, so I have 19 spots available.
And NO—you do not have to be a production spinner or capable of spinning some ridiculous number of miles of yarn to join Team Aker. I want experienced spinners, casual spinners, newer spinners, spindle spinners, people who want an excuse to get their wheel out again, and the completely unhinged among us who intend to spin until their treadling leg falls off.
We're going to have some fun with this.
I'll be offering Team Aker prizes during the week for things like:
🏆 Highest total yardage
🧵 Finest/highest-yardage skein
🎡 Most adventurous/diverse spinning
💪 "Spin Through It" award for overcoming whatever chaos the week throws at you
📣 Best team spirit
🎯 Plus a team-total yardage guessing game!
We'll have our own Team Aker Facebook space to share photos, cheer each other on, ask questions, report progress, and engage in whatever degree of friendly smack talk seems warranted. I'll also schedule some Zoom sessions during the week so we can spin together if you have time.
Spinzilla runs: October 5 at noon – October 11 at noon, in your own local time.
Registration is $20 per spinner, paid directly through TNNA.
You can spin from ANYWHERE. You do not need to be local to Aker Fiber Farm.
I have to officially register Team Aker with TNNA by THIS SATURDAY, September 12 at noon, so right now I'm looking for my people. Individual spinners have until September 30 to officially register.
Want one of the 19 spots? Comment below or message me ASAP. Once the team is registered, I'll get everyone the information for officially joining Team Aker Fiber Farm.
Come spin with me. Let's see just how much yarn 20 fiber people can make in one slightly ridiculous week.
