One question we get from operators shopping for a soft serve machine more than almost any other — do I need heat treatment or not?

It's one of those decisions that looks simple on the surface but actually has a real impact on your labor costs, cleaning schedule, and day-to-day operation. Get it wrong and you're either overpaying for capability you don't need or constantly fighting a cleaning schedule that's eating into your staff hours.

Here's the short version:
Heat treatment machines use a built-in heating cycle to extend the time between full cleanings. Less downtime, less labor, better for high volume operations. Higher upfront cost.

Non-heat treatment machines require more frequent manual cleaning. Simpler, lower cost, perfectly suited for seasonal operations, smaller concepts, and lower volume environments.

Neither is better — they're just built for different businesses.
