⚠️ Tropical Storm Isaias is headed our way, with landfall expected late Friday or early Saturday between Gulfport and Panama City and heavy rain across south Alabama and the Panhandle. A few water steps to take today:

The FBI is telling water utilities in seven states to disconnect their control systems from the internet.

Last weekend, hackers hit more than 30 community water systems in Minnesota in one coordinated attack — locking plant operators out of their own equipment. Since then the same thing has been reported in at least seven states, and the fallout has included lost water pressure, flooding, and boil-water notices.

To be clear: nobody has said your water is unsafe, and Minnesota's water quality was never affected. This isn't a reason to panic.

It IS a reason to think about something we say to families across the Wiregrass every week — your city's water plant is one layer of protection. Your home should be the last one.

When a plant loses control of its dosing, or a main goes down, what shows up at your tap is chlorine swings, sediment, and taste and odor you didn't have yesterday.
