for many varieties of gourmet garlic, particularly the rich-flavored hardnecks. Although not certified organic, we follow organic guidelines and use no pesticides or herbicides in our garlic beds or in our personal vegetable garden and orchard nearby. We are also working to improve and maintain the health of our forests, bunchgrass canyon slopes, wildflower meadows, and old pastures. This year, we are also raising pigs (red wattles and duroc-yorkshires) on pasture.

Our Story

Amaranta Farm is located in the far northeast corner of Oregon, in what locals call “The North End” of sparsely populated Wallowa County. It’s a region of deep canyons, ponderosa pine forests, and glorious views of the Blue Mountains and Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness.

Our cold and snowy winters, dry summers, high elevation (3700 feet) and deep loess soil provide excellent pasture for our yaks and good growing conditions for our vegetables.

We sell yak breeding stock and will begin selling USDA-inspected yak meat for sale at the Joseph Farmers’ Market in 2019. We will also sell and seasonal produce and fiber creations. We raised red wattle pigs in the past but have discontinued selling pork to focus more on yaks and other projects.

Although not certified organic, we follow organic guidelines and use no pesticides or herbicides. Our animals receive no antibiotics or hormones and are given abundant space to express their natural behavior.
