This one is a twofer, because apparently Wooliam and Frances have decided they are a package deal.

Wooliam arrived here 8 years ago as a 45 day old orphaned lamb. He was traumatized, sad, and wanted very little to do with anyone. It took months for him to settle in and really join the flock.

Over the years, that standoffish little loner has somehow turned into a giant goober who LOVES attention and scritches. Wooliam has opinions, a very large body, and absolutely no concept of personal space once he decides you should be petting him.

Frances arrived last year when her flock needed a safe place to land because of a downsizing situation. She has always been a bit shy, but for whatever reason, she and Wooliam found each other.

And now they are buddies.

They sleep together. They eat together. They graze together. If one is somewhere, the other usually isn’t far away. It is ridiculously cute.

So naturally, their fleeces should stay together too.

If you have ever wanted to try spinning Teeswater AND Wensleydale without committing to two giant fleeces, here you go!

🧶 About the Fleeces

Wooliam grows fleece painfully slowly.

Teeswaters are supposed to be impressive fleece producers. Wooliam apparently did not receive that particular genetic memo. What he DOES grow, though, is gorgeous. Lovely little locks, beautiful luster, and surprisingly soft fiber with so many possibilities.

Frances has a tiny fleece for an entirely different reason.

Frances is a piggy.

She also has the unfortunate habit of standing underneath Wooliam while he eats, and Wooliam believes hay and alfalfa should be distributed liberally across Frances’s back while dining.

So Frances required some SERIOUS skirting.

What remains is the good stuff. Beautiful Wensleydale fiber that should open up wonderfully after scouring and be an absolute pleasure to spin.

Both fleeces have strong tips with no breaks or cotting. VM is minimal, and both have been heavily skirted by a very picky hand spinner. Belly, britch, questionable locks, and Frances’s personal hay collection have all been removed.

🐑 Wensleydale/Romney Fleece — Molly 🐑

Six year old Molly is a ewe who tolerates absolutely no nonsense.

She is sensible, practical, clever and deeply suspicious of foolishness. If Molly were a person, she would be a prepper. Not the wild conspiracy theory kind. The competent kind. Her pantry would contain six months of food, 40 gallons of water, batteries organized by size, three generators and enough toilet paper to survive the collapse of civilization. She would know how to can tomatoes, purify drinking water and quietly judge the rest of us for not being prepared.

Molly also has her spot in her favorite stall.

This is not a suggestion.

Any sheep foolish enough to lie there will be informed of the property boundaries by Molly personally, usually at considerable sp*ed and with her forehead.

With people, however, Molly is an absolute sweetheart. She loves attention, expects scritches and considers treats part of the basic agreement between sheep and shepherd.

🧶 About the Fleece

Molly grows a HUGE fleece, and she really does bring together some of the best qualities of both Wensleydale and Romney wool.

Her fleece has beautiful, consistent locks with a lovely hand and enough structure to make it incredibly versatile. Once scoured, it becomes soft and silky while still having the body you want for a yarn that needs to hold its shape and show off texture.

I personally would not choose this one for next to the skin, but oh, the possibilities. It would make a gorgeous cardigan, drapey shawl, wrap, vest, outerwear, woven piece, blanket or anything where you want beautiful drape, durability and a yarn with some presence. I think it would also be spectacular spun to preserve all of those natural shades rather than blending them into one uniform gray.

The tips are strong with no breaks or cotting. VM is minimal, and it has been skirted by a very picky hand spinner who has made the eradication of vegetable matter something of a personal crusade. Belly and britch are gone.

What remains is 5.43 pounds of beautiful, usable fiber ready to toss into the wash tub when you open the box.

🖍️ Color

This is where Molly’s fleece gets really interesting.

It is not simply gray.

Think of beautiful brunette hair that has naturally gone heavily salt and pepper with age. Silvery around the face, charcoal and pewter running through it, with glimpses of the original brunette still hiding underneath. That is Molly’s fleece.

Once scoured, expect a gorgeous range of charcoal, pewter, medium gray and silver, with sun kissed tips carrying subtle taupe and rosy tan tones. There is tremendous depth to the color, and depending on how you prepare and spin it, you could preserve those individual shades or blend them into a wonderfully complex, naturally heathered gray yarn.

And that warm brown cast you see in some of the photos? My camera is a liar. 😂 There is also some barn dust in the fleece that will wash away easily. The actual fleece is much cooler and grayer than the camera wants you to believe.

Seldon arrived on this earth February 5, 2026, as a complete surprise to everyone except his mother, Joy.

Apparently Joy had spent the entire winter quietly harboring the secret of her forbidden tryst with Winston five months earlier. She said nothing. Gave us no warning. Just carried on with her life while growing an entire secret Wensleydale.

Then one February morning: SURPRISE. SELDON.

There are Maury episodes with less drama.

Seldon was spoiled approximately 14 seconds after birth and has since grown into the sweetest, kindest little wether with opinions about absolutely everything and the kind of fleece that dreams are made of.

🧶 About the Fleece

Seldon was sheared at 5.5 months old, and his lamb fleece is simply gorgeous. Soft, silky, incredible luster, beautiful consistent curl and OMG THE HAND.

This is next to the skin soft.

Taylor is an elegant ewe. There really isn’t another word for her. She has the softest nose, the sweetest eyes and a calm, gentle way about her. She is kind to everyone, never looking for trouble and generally conducts herself like a lady.

She is steady, sensible and completely uncomplicated, which in a flock containing its fair share of questionable decision makers is deeply appreciated. Taylor is one of those sheep who is simply lovely to be around. She doesn’t need to be the center of attention, but she is always happy for affection and will quietly stand there while you rub that ridiculously soft nose. There is just something very gentle about her.

Her responsibilities consist of eating, being beautiful and growing spectacular wool. She excels at all three.

I simply adore her.

🧶 About the Fleece

Taylor’s fleece is simply beautiful. The hand is soft and silky, the luster is incredible and the curl is wonderfully consistent. Honestly, this might be the perfect marriage of Romney and Wensleydale.

The lock structure definitely leans toward her Wensleydale roots, with those long, defined, lustrous curls, but the hand feels more Romney to me. Soft, substantial and lovely to handle. And then there is the luster.

Good grief, the luster. This fleece practically glows.

It should be very easy to scour and I think it is going to draft like an absolute dream. I rinsed a handful of locks in nothing but cool water so you can get a p*ek at what is hiding underneath, and the rinsed locks are pictured. If that little preview is any indication, this fleece is going to clean up beautifully.

🖍️ Color

This fleece should scour to a gorgeous bright white with some possible discoloration remaining on the very tips because, well…sheep.

They live outside. They lie on the ground. They p*e with absolutely no consideration for future fiber artists. We do what we can. 😂

🐑 Wensleydale Yearling Wether Fleece — Colbert 🐑

Colbert and his twin sister Clara were not supposed to be here. Their mother, however, had other plans involving a secret tryst with a young ram lamb who squeezed through a hole in the fence and apparently had the time of his life. We thought we had taken care of all the potential “aftermaths” of that little nookie fest. Alas, we were wrong. Five months later, Colbert and Clara arrived. Surprise! 🎉🐑🐑

Colbert is a little more reserved than his sister. This may have something to do with the unfortunate procedure that permanently separated him from his baby making equipment. Forgiveness is hard when you lose your testicles. He’s coming around. Slowly. He may never completely trust me again, but fortunately, he grows a beautiful fleece while holding a grudge.

🧶 About the Fleece

This little fleece is absolutely gorgeous. Colbert did manage to collect a respectable amount of dust, because apparently growing beautiful wool wasn’t enough and he needed a hobby. VM, however, is minimal. I would give it a couple of cool rinses before scouring, but it should clean up beautifully and easily.

In fact, I popped some locks into a bucket of cool water just to see what was hiding under there, and WOW. The clean locks are pictured so you can see for yourself. No soap, no actual scouring, just a little cool water preview of what this fleece is going to become. This one is going to be super easy to scour.

Now, Colbert was a complete pill during shearing. He rolled around like a dying fish, apparently convinced that shearing was an assassination attempt. As a result, there were quite a few second cuts. I went through this fleece lock by lock, removing VM and hunting down every single second cut I could find. At this point I know this fleece more intimately than Colbert does. The remaining locks range from 4 to 5 inches, with approximately 80% right around 5 inches.

And the hand? Ohhhhhhh, the hand. Silky. Soft. Lustrous. Gorgeous. I wouldn’t hesitate to use this next to the skin. However, I should disclose that either I am unusually tolerant of wool or I have the skin of a deranged alligator. I remain unsure.

🖍️ Color

This fleece is going to scour into the most wonderful mix of bright white, dove gray, pewter and charcoal with slightly sun kissed taupe tips. And once again, my camera is a liar. This time it decided to warm everything up and make the fleece look much more brown and taupe than it actually is. The freshly rinsed locks pictured are a much better representation of the cooler gray tones hiding underneath.

And the overdye possibilities are killing me. I can already see this dyed a faded blue. With the natural variation underneath, I think it would come out looking like your favorite pair of well worn jeans, with incredible depth and all that Wensleydale luster.

I need to stop thinking about this immediately because if I keep imagining what I could do with it, I won’t sell it. And let’s be clear about what will actually happen if I keep it. I will put it somewhere “safe,” have seventeen brilliant ideas for it, occasionally take it out and admire it, and accomplish none of them. Save this fleece from my ADD. Please.

🐑 Wensleydale Ewe Fleece — Darlin’ 🐑

What do I say about Darlin’? We can start with her name.

As a lamb, she was an adorable little darling made of black curls and happiness. She didn’t walk. She bounced. She was a snuggle bug from the beginning and would often fall asleep on my lap, wrapped up inside my coat. Just sweetness and love in a tiny curly package.

Darlin’s personality hasn’t changed one bit. She is still every bit as loving and sweet. And does she ever love her snacks. Frosted Mini Wheats are her obsession. Darlin’ firmly believes they are a food group and I see no point in arguing with her.

🧶 About the Fleece

This fleece is a joyful slice of heaven.

Darlin’ is an absolute fleece machine. She grows approximately 14 inches of fleece a year and requires shearing every six months. This is a gorgeous Wensleydale ewe fleece with an incredibly soft hand and beautiful, consistent long locks.

There is minimal VM, and what remains after my obsessive skirting will fall out easily during processing. This fleece is basically Teflon. Nothing sticks to it. Pop the locks and voilà! No VM.

It will be a dream to process and a joy to spin. I skirted the heck out of this fleece, and everything that remains is usable and ready to toss in the wash tub right out of the shipping box.

🖍️ Color

Darlin’ has one of the darkest fleeces we have here. She has an occasional strand of silver, but it is minimal. Her fleece is primarily soft black and dark chocolate with sun kissed tips. It should process into a beautiful soft chocolate.

Of course, my camera is continuing its ongoing campaign of dishonesty and insists on washing out the colors. Please look at the darkest photos for the most accurate representation.

Two year old Apollo has appointed himself Head of Quality Control for the sanctuary. No activity is too small to escape his notice. Feeding time? Apollo supervises. Fence repairs? Apollo supervises. A sheep sneezes three pastures away? Apollo is already on site conducting a full investigation. He is endlessly curious, permanently involved in everyone else’s business, and absolutely convinced that the sanctuary could not function without his expert oversight.

🧶 About the Fleece

This fleece has a lovely soft hand along with the silky luster Wensleydales are famous for. Once scoured, it will reveal beautiful shine, excellent drape, and fiber that is a pleasure to spin, blend, and create with. It is a hardworking fleece from a hardworking young man.

🖍️ Color

Apollo’s fleece is predominantly black with the occasional silver strand scattered throughout. The sun kissed tips remain a rich chocolate rather than fading to a lighter brown.

Unfortunately, my camera remains committed to a life of deception. The photos and video consistently overexpose the fleece, making the sun tipped areas appear much lighter and exaggerating the contrast. Images where the fleece appears closest to black are the most accurate representation of its true color. Once spun, expect a beautifully deep chocolate brown or soft black yarn with wonderful depth and richness.

Toula is one of our beloved matriarchs, the kind of ewe who never feels the need to prove herself because she already knows exactly who she is. Calm, steady, and quietly confident, she moves through life with an air of dignity that simply cannot be rushed. She adores treats and affection, but only on her terms. Toula does not beg. She does not grovel. She simply appears beside you, gives you a look that says, “I trust you know what is expected here,” and patiently waits for tribute to be delivered.

Toula is the result of an oops liaison many years ago between a Romney momma and a Wensleydale daddy-o. Somehow she inherited the best of both. Every year she keeps us guessing because sometimes she grows a fleece that leans silver and sometimes one that leans charcoal. It’s always a surprise waiting under the wool.

This year’s fleece is a beautiful blend of charcoal, pewter, and silver tones with lovely lock structure and a soft hand. It has the luster and character of her Wensleydale heritage with a bit of the practicality and ease of processing that makes it a joy to work with.
