Some pics of blooms around the farm I took the other day in between rain showers. We’re slowly getting plants in the ground in the back garden but our famous New England weather isn’t helping when its cold raw and rainy one day and high 80’s to mid 90’s the next. πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ

🐾 Little Ripp 🐾 watching over the baby Lavender Orpingtons while I clean and disinfect their brooder. We desensitize our chicks to the dogs early as they will be depending on them to protect them from predators when out in the yard.

Next batch of eggs are in the incubator. I’m very excited for these eggs. This time we decided to go with the rare breed of gold/lemon Deathlayers. I’ve attached a summary on the breed below:

The Gold Deathlayer (Totleger) is a rare 400-year-old German heritage breed famous for its striking golden-laced plumage and reputation for producing an egg a day almost until the end of its life. They lay 200–250 medium white eggs per year and thrive best in free-range environments.Breed ProfileOrigin: Westphalia, GermanyAppearance: Shimmering gold, black penciled feathers, black tails with green/purple iridescence, striking black doll-eyes, and a tight cushion comb.Weight: Roosters average 5 lbs; hens average 3.5–4.5 lbs.Temperament: Flighty, highly active, and excellent foragers. They generally do not tolerate confinement well and do best with large runs or free-ranging.Hardiness: Highly cold-hardy with small combs that resist frostbite.Egg Production & LifespanOutput: ~200 to 250 medium white eggs annually.Lifespan: 10 to 12 years with proper care. The Name: The German word Totleger translates to "death layer." While often rumored to lay an egg on the literal day they die, the name actually reflects their impressive ability to maintain prolific egg-laying well past the age when most other chicken breeds typically stop.

Maxximillion our farm dog allowing the hens free range while also making sure they stay out of my flowerbeds and safe from predators like hawks and at the end of the day he herds all the girls back to the coop for me. A good farm dog is a valuable resource πŸΎπŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ
