At J R Organics, a traditional family farm, quality vegetables and fruit are grown using the finest fertilizers and the latest in organic cultivation. Produce is delivered within 24 hours of harvest for superior flavor and nutritional value. The farm was originally homesteaded by the Rodriguez family in the early 1950's and has been CCOF certified organic since 1986. We grow everything from arugul

Supporting local agriculture sometimes means working together.

Throughout the year, we work with Dickinson Family Farms to help bring even more fresh, certified organic produce to our community.

It's a partnership that goes both ways. We source items such as dragon fruit, citrus, and avocados from them, and they help distribute J.R. Organics produce through their network, including farm-to-school programs serving San Diego, Orange County, and Los Angeles.

One of the things that makes our CSA harvest box unique is the seasonal fruit.

Throughout the year, our boxes include premium items like watermelon, dragon fruit, cantaloupe, and fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries) when they're in season.

Next week, both our watermelon and dragon fruit () will be included in our CSA boxes.

This is the best time of year for heirloom tomatoes.

Our fields are producing several beautiful varieties, all harvested vine-ripe for outstanding flavor.

Because heirloom tomatoes have thinner skins, some develop small cracks during hot weather. Those tomatoes are still perfectly good to eat (equally packed with flavor!) and are available as No. 2 tomatoes in our online store.

They're an excellent value for homemade pasta sauce, salsa, tomato soup, roasting, or canning.

The fourth watermelon wave is here.

Our specialty seeded organic watermelons are back a week early, including both red and yellow varieties.

Our plantings are timed to keep fresh watermelon coming throughout the summer instead of all at once. This fourth wave should be with us for about three weeks.

Our watermelon are vine-ripened, hand harvested, and picked for outstanding flavor.

The warm summer weather has been ideal for watermelon, making it ripen quickly enough that we have it this weekend.

Our fourth wave of watermelon may be the sweetest harvest yet.

A quick field note: our current lettuce planting bolted in the heat, which means the plants went to seed earlier than planned. Lettuce should be back in about 2 to 3 weeks.

This week’s citrus mix will include limes instead of lemons.

Daikon radishes are one of those crops people sometimes overlook until they know what to do with them.

They’re crisp, juicy, and versatile, with a clean flavor that works in far more than salads.

Depending on the variety, daikon can be white, purple, red, green, or even beautifully colorful inside. Some are mild and sweet, while others have more peppery bite.

Try them thinly sliced in salads, quick-pickled, grated into sauces, roasted, added to soups, or used in slaws and kimchi.

If you see daikon in your CSA box or at the market stand, don’t be intimidated. Ask us how to use it, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

This field is getting ready for a new planting of arugula, spicy salad mix, and kale.

Before that, it grew celery and broccolini. After those crops finished, the field was left fallow for a period of rest before being prepared again.

Crop rotation is one of the basic practices of organic farming.

Instead of planting the same crop in the same place over and over, we move crops through different fields over time. This helps manage soil fertility, pest pressure, disease pressure, and overall field health.

Now the beds are formed again, and the next round of greens is going in.

Every crop starts long before you ever see it at the market stand.

Every CSA box reflects what is actually happening in the fields that week. Sometimes that means a favorite crop comes in strong. Sometimes the heat pushes a crop ahead of schedule.

That is part of eating with the seasons, and part of what makes a farm-direct CSA box different from a standard grocery order.

This is peak season for tomatoes.

Heirloom tomatoes and cherry tomatoes are both coming in with excellent flavor right now, and this is one of the best times of year to enjoy them.

At J.R. Organics, we plant and manage tomatoes with a long season in mind. While summer is the peak, our goal is to keep tomatoes coming into the fall as long as the fields, weather, and plant health allow.

The second half of tomato season can be especially good. Warm days, mature plants, and careful harvest timing all contribute to rich flavor.

If you’ve been waiting for tomatoes that taste like tomatoes, now is the time.
