to June 2002 - The birth of the beer that helped redefine what an IPA could be.

Before ā€œextremeā€ IPAs were everywhere, there was Stone Ruination Double IPA. Brewed with enough hops to break the scale, it was loud and bitter - exactly how we liked it.

As one of the first regularly brewed and bottled West Coast Double IPAs, it set the standard for hop-forward beers that followed. Bonus points if you can name its most direct successor.

Running from 2002ā€“2012, the Stone Vertical Epic Ales series featured a new bottle-conditioned ale released every year, month and day apart from the last ā€” beginning with 02.02.02 and ending with 12.12.12.

Built specifically for aging, the beers were intended to be saved and eventually enjoyed together in one complete vertical tasting after December 12, 2012. Each release added its own twist to the story, evolving the lineup one year at a time.

To celebrate our 30th anniversary this year, we rebrewed a batch of 09.09.09 and even broke out vintage bottles of Stone Vertical Epic 02.02.02 to celebrate the legacy of a series that rewarded patience, curiosity and a willingness to play the long game.
