Here at Caromont, we love Virginia w**e. There is no better pairing with cheese, of course. And it is all the more special when the cheese and w**e come from milk and grapes originating from the same, lovingly tended soils that make our local products distinct.

We are lucky to have built relationships with some of the most stellar makers in our area like Jefferson Vineyards, Trady Rausse, King Family Vineyards, Barboursville Vineyards, and to have our cheeses in their tasting rooms. Go check them out and sip local during Virginia W**e Month!

We had a great group for last weekend’s Intro to Farmstead Cheesemaking course!

We have two more classes on the books for this Fall and would love for you to join us. We don’t often host intermediate courses, but our next scheduled workshop will be focused on hard cheeses. Happy Fall Equinox to you all! The goats are loving the cooler weather, and hey, so are we. We are still enjoying the late summer produce and the green landscape, and we aren’t looking forward to the shorter days ahead, but these farmers are tired and the colder months force us to slow down and cozy up a bit. We’ve got a ways to go before our “slow” season, but we welcome the natural pacing of the world and hope you do too.

A few adjustments to our schedule this week while we let some staff take much deserved vacations!

We will be at Birdhouse Farmer's Market, Charlottesville City Markets Pen Park Wednesday market, Nelson Farmers Market Cooperative, and growrva South of the James this week.

We are taking a two week break from The Little Market at Lampo, but anticipate being at all of our other markets next week as usual.

This is Matadora 🌹

She is an homage to Ibores, a raw goat’s milk cheese made in the mountainous region of Extremadura in southwestern Spain. Our version is rubbed with Steve Sando and the Rancho Gordo staff smoked pimento and olive oil, giving it a rich bite with a tangy, lingering finish.

It’s the perfect cheese for these in-between days as we transition from balmy summer weather to cool Fall evenings. Pick up a piece tomorrow at growrva South of the James on Forest Hill Park!

Happy Birthday, Daniel! It’s hard to wrap all of the wonderful things about you into a few short sentences. You are effortlessly kind, you are a tirelessly hard worker, you are both strong and sensitive - you can spend your days moving hay or building a barn and spend the same evening teary eyed in the kitchen over Dolly and Gloria and Wendell (Rest in power💔). You make a mean burger, you can sell a piece of cheese like no other, you can always find time for a chat with a friend or stranger, and we are so happy to call you ours!
